Au travers du cadre théorique de la politique linguistique familiale, cette communication interrogera comment un élève allophone issu de la migration gère son multilinguisme face à la famille avec la langue d'héritage et face à l'école avec la langue d'accueil. Est-ce que l'élève trie ces langues ? Que faire avec l'élève bilingue dès la naissance ? Comment peut-on comprendre aussi l'immersion scolaire d'un élève allophone du point de vue de l'idéologie linguistique de la famille ? Je présenterai quelques études de cas monographiques s'appuyant sur des enfants issus de la migration, scolarisés en France, Suède, Norvège et Finlande, et je focaliserai mon propos sur le stress d'identité manifesté par ces enfants baignés et tiraillés dans les deux cultures et deux langues : d'une part, celles de leurs parents ; et d'autre part, celles du pays d'accueil. La famille peut être considérée comme le véritable creuset au sein duquel les langues peuvent être préservées. Toutefois, il s'avère que des enfants ont rejeté les langues d'héritage dans certaines familles, et que les parents ont abondé dans leur sens. Cependant, dans les cas où la langue d'héritage a pu être conservée, les enfants étaient capables de nouer un réseau social dans leur pays d'origine.
International audience ; This paper draws on the fieldwork conducted into the language practices of Muslim individuals in the Nordic countries and the Netherlands. All the informants in the study were born in the Muslim quarter in the Indian sub-continent, with the exception of one informant who is from Suriname. Few works (Schor, 1985; Haque, 2014, 2012; Zolberg & Woon, 1999) in sociolinguistics seem to focus on the practice of Islam by immigrants in their daily lives, in which a plethora of languages are used for different functions. Previous works (Peach & Vertovec 1997; Ogan et al. 2013) have shown that the perception of Muslims in Europe is not favourable, and this factor has become a constraint when seeking to collect data for a large sample of the population. Sociolinguistic and ethnographic tools such as questionnaires, interviews, field notes and participant observation were employed to gain insight into socio-cultural practices and linguistic attitudes. The diachronic case studies have provided an in-depth understanding of the role played by different languages in the understanding and practice of Islam by immigrant Muslims. If Arabic is the principal sacred language for prayers and other rituals for immigrant Muslims, Urdu is considered as an important second religious language for many believers, as literature on Islamic teaching is widely available in this language. Also, due to the rise in popularity of social media and networking and their usage on smartphones and other electronic devices, English has appeared as another auxiliary language used in resources on Islamic discourses, and it has been ascribed the role of lingua franca for the dissemination of religious knowledge.

Cet article étudie l'usage prosodique et des pratiques langagières présents dans le discours politique d'un politicien de renom appartenant aux basses castes et comme haut représentant de l'Etat de Bihar en Inde. Il s'agit de Lalu Prasad Yadav (dorénavant LPY), président du parti politique Rashtriya Janta Dal, et qui a été 'Chef ministre' du Bihar de 1990 à 1997. Élu comme membre du parlement indien en 1977, sa présence dans la sphère politique a été caractérisée par la mise en valeur de l'usage de l'accent bihari et de pratiques langagières rurales spécifiques à la communauté de basse caste afin de construire son propre électorat. Nous proposons d'analyser certains de ses discours politiques, particulièrement des scènes médiatiques diffusées à la télévision, qui sont désormais disponible sur l'Internet. L'objectif de cette étude tend à comprendre quel sont les effets de l'utilisation d'un accent rural et son rôle dans la lutte entre classes sociales, la 'rébellion' des basses castes à l'encontre de l'hégémonie de la haute caste en Inde. Au travers ses différents discours politiques, LPY a bouleversé les normes de discours politiques indiens en avançant avec fierté un marqueur d'identité au travers du truchement de l'usage prosodique. LPY est devenu la risée de la presse nationale mais ainsi il a réussi à tisser un lien fort avec la masse. Il fait parti des rares politiciens du nord de l'Inde connu dans des états non-hindiphones en Inde, particulièrement dans l'Etat de Tamil Nadu. Étant un politicien de basse caste, LPY a véhiculé à peu près les mêmes idées que les autres politiciens de basses castes, c'est à dire une dénonciation de la persécution des basses castes par la haute caste, la pauvreté et le manque d'éducation au sein de la basse caste, mais dans son discours politique il a conservé une tournure prosodique 'naturelle' et n'a jamais cherché a policé ou standardisé son langage, ce qui a été la source de son immense succès.

It attempts to expound the language practices of four Indian immigrant families settled in four European countries : France, Sweden, Norway and Finland. This study also seeks to identify issues of family language policies, a domain where little research has been undertaken and therefore, remains to be developed. Moreover, ideologies and attitudes about languages are reflected in decisions taken by the heads of the household, who manifest a special penchant for a specific language, for themselves and in particular, for their children. At the macro level, the national language policy of each country in our study is discussed, including that of India, with a focus on language education policy and on the teaching of immigrant languages in schools. The plurilinguism of participants is analyzed with the concept of multilingual repertoire, in which language competencies are truncated by specific domains. The concepts of space, context, mobility, scale, polycentrality and orders of indexicality were raised in order to understand and sift the truncated verbal repertoire. Intergenerational language transmission is examined through a critical analysis of national and family language policies ; the question of the effect of the legacy of cultural and linguistic values of the country of origin (or the absence of such transmission) on the construction of the identity of the second generation are equally reviewed. ; Ce travail de recherche s'inscrit dans une approche pluridisciplinaire – monographique, ethnographique et sociolinguistique avec une dimension longitudinale. Par ailleurs, les idéologies et attitudes concernant les langues se traduisent dans les décisions prises par les chefs de la famille, les parents, qui privilégient l'apprentissage de telle ou telle langue, pour eux-mêmes et surtout pour les enfants. International audience ; This paper explores the usefulness of different languages in determining and shaping the notions of identity of a second-generation immigrant adolescent in Norway. This research is part of a doctoral study based on the sociolinguistic ethnographic method of inquiry on an Indian immigrant family. The verbal repertoire of the Norwegian informant includes many languages and each of the languages contributes to different meanings in the construction of the informant's identity. The informant's language practices are influenced by the language ideologies of his parents, who endeavor to maintain the culture and languages of their country of origin. One of the core issues for the family members is the perseverance of their religion and hence a religious identity is manifested in the narratives of the informant. Besides, a lack of adequate language competencies in parental languages and a desire to maintain the culture of origin in the family premises, the young adolescent shows signs of identity stress.
