Studies of the beliefs of teacher educators record high levels of professional self-esteem, but also document the perceived lack of professional regard from colleagues in other areas, informing and redirecting our professional needs assessment. The literature documents that a general disregard for teacher educators as professionals has become a part of the academic culture at many institutions of higher learning in the US. With all of the external pressures on teacher educators, from governmental and accrediting agencies, the public, and professional organizations, perhaps we should address the attitudes of our academic colleagues as one area in which faculty pressures might be lightened.

In the present study, a heterogeneous sample of 105 athletes (mean age = 21.4 years) was used to gain insight into the potential negative consequences of high team cohesion. Athletes were asked open-ended questions relating to the potential disadvantages of high task and high social cohesion. It was found that 56% of athletes reported possible disadvantages to high social cohesion, whereas 31% of athletes reported possible disadvantages to high task cohesion. Furthermore, data analyses revealed multiple dimensions of negative consequences for both high task and social cohesion. More specifically, analysis of responses revealed both group- and personal-level consequences. The findings contrast with the popularly held view that high cohesion is always beneficial for teams and team members. It was suggested that future research assess the prevalence and importance of the disadvantages of high cohesion.

We examined the indirect effects of basic psychological skills (PS) on military endurance through 26 enhanced advanced PS, whilst controlling for fitness. British Army recruits (n = 159) participated 27 in three endurance events for Parachute Regiment selection and completed an adapted Test of 28 Performance Strategies questionnaire (Hardy et al., 2010). Following confirmatory factor analyses, 29 the multiple mediation regression analyses using PROCESS (Hayes, 2013) suggested that goal-30 setting, imagery and relaxation all had positive indirect effects on endurance via activation, with 31 goal setting also impacting on endurance via negative thinking. These data provide some support 32 for basic PS influencing endurance via advanced PS.
