Gently re-arranging History : Alsace between myth and mysticism.
Beyond their desire to reappoint a «meaning» to events and cast light on the behaviour of people who played a major role during the Occupation, historians continually succumb to the demands stemming from the legal, media and political fields or certain social groups in search of legitimacy within the public domain -sometimes to the detriment of a reflection on what their profession truly asks of them. The Mémorial d'Alsace-Moselle project (Alsace-Moselle Memorial project) in part meets the historical and geographical vacuum and the lack of interdisciplinary works on the question of individual and collective responsibility during this period. While the desire to understand expressed by younger generations will no doubt be satisfied with the information gathered, how will it be received by the surviving participants, as witnesses of the events related ? Some questions, left hanging in this region wounded by History, may at last be put forward and a debate triggered off.
