The undeclared cyberspace war between Hezbollah and Israel*
In: Contemporary Arab affairs, Band 1, Heft 3, S. 391-405
ISSN: 1755-0920
The self explanatory title of this article adds a new dimension to the regional conflict. The use of cyberspace warfare in the Middle East is a topic that has been rarely addressed and the article provides interesting insights into various aspects and developments in this new type of conflict.
Revisiting the Physician's Approach to Lesbian and Bisexual Patients in Lebanon
In: al- Raida: The Pioneer = ar- Rāʾida, Band 43, Heft 1, S. 56-65
Health disparities among sexual minority groups exist worldwide. Lesbian and bisexual women face barriers to healthcare access and provision. Disparities are even more striking in Middle Eastern countries like Lebanon. This paper assesses healthcare resources and practices pertaining to sexual minority women in Lebanon. We found a significant scarcity of research on lesbian or bisexual women coming out of Lebanon or the Middle East. We call for enriching the literature with such research to better understand the needs of women and recommend effective interventions.

Economics of Property Crime Rate in Punjab
In: The Pakistan development review: PDR, Band 52, Heft 3, S. 221-233
This study intends to ascertain the impact of socio-economic,
demographic and deterrent variables and the effect of technical criminal
know-how and past criminal experience on property crime rate. The
property crime equation comprises of the following independent
variables: population density, unemployment rate, literacy rate, police
strength and number of police proclaimed offenders in a society. The
property crime equation has been estimated by using a time-series data
set for Punjab from 1978 to 2012. We have applied Johansen cointegration
approach to test the long run relationship among the variables.
Empirical findings suggest that police strength has a deterrent effect
while past criminal experience enhances property crime rate in Punjab.
The study finds population density has a significant positive
relationship while education has a significant negative relationship
with property crime rate. Further we also find a negative relationship
between unemployment and property crime which is supported by the
concept of 'consensus of doubt' in the discipline of crime and
economics. JEL Classification: D6
Monetary Policy Restriction and Dividend Behaviour of Pakistani Firms: An Empirical Analysis
In: The Pakistan development review: PDR, Band 51, Heft 4II, S. 683-693
Dividend behaviour has extensively been reviewed by many
researchers from time to time across different countries. Empirical
evidences observed in most of the studies reveal equivocal results about
dividend theories [Bhattacharyya (2007)]. Since, in absence of any
unanimous findings, need for future research has not been restricted,
theoretically. In developing countries like Pakistan, where limited
research is available on corporate dividend policy, need for future
research is more looked for. Most of the available research papers,
address only firm specific determinants of dividend policy. Do
macroeconomic variables influence corporate financing decisions? The
need to address this question is the prime motive of this research
paper. Major objective of this paper is to observe dividend behaviour of
listed firms in Pakistan under monetary policy restrictions and this is
the first attempt of its kind in Pakistan to the best of my Knowledge.
This study is very relevant in present scenario since State Bank of
Pakistan (SBP) has been persistently pursuing restricted monetary policy
since 2005 to control inflation.

Barriers and success factors for implementation and adoption of healthcare information systems in developing countries:a systematic literature review
Abstract. Developing countries often struggle to implement sustainable healthcare information systems (HIS) due to poor government policy and technological legacy. Bangladesh is a prime example where a large number of patients are deprived of proper healthcare simply because their data is fragmented and not digitally recorded. Several researchers have shown how standard healthcare systems in hospitals can reduce the complexity of patient management, thus creating room for serving more patients at the same time. Such standard systems can dramatically improve the scenario for developing countries. This thesis gives an overview of key barriers that is hindering developing countries to implement such HIS. It also accumulates the success factors to overcome the issues. This thesis used a systematic literature review (SLR) to analyze the relevant literature in the field of information systems. A review protocol was developed to conduct the SLR. Relevant studies were collected from three databases, IEEE Xplore, Ebsco Databases, ScienceDirect. The initial search resulted in 4014 studies. The search was further refined and through a process of selection using inclusion and exclusion criteria, 19 relevant primary studies were reviewed to answer the research questions. This study identified 24 barriers which have been grouped into six categories, and 19 success factors, grouped into four categories. The results show that HIS implementation in developing countries is hindered due to the lack of infrastructure, lack of education and awareness, lack of financial supports, cultural and political issues, resistance and support unwillingness, and lack of system quality. The findings also brought success factors as suggestions for successful implementation of sustainable HIS. The study found that utilization of resources to be most significant success factor which influences the successful HIS implementation.

Implication of Requirements Engineering in ICT4D Project Development
In: International journal of information communication technologies and human development: IJICTHD ; an official publication of the Information Resources Management Association, Band 7, Heft 3, S. 1-12
ISSN: 1935-567X
The idea of Information and Communication Technology for development (ICT4D) has been gathering momentum since last decade. It contributes to the development of social, political, and economic growth of the underprivileged group of populations especially in the context of developing countries. Requirements Engineering (RE) is the most sensitive from all other activities involve in the ICT4D project development. This paper reports on a literature review of published ICT4D research and provides an analysis of the requirements design issues in ICT4D project development in terms of functional requirements, non-functional requirements, and user requirements. The analysis of this paper can serve the ICT4D researchers and practitioners as a means of understanding the requirements design issues in ICT4D project development.
