In favour of a «Sociology of intervention».
Sociology established itself under the influence of positivism. In order to elaborate this field of research as a science, the founding fathers wanted to reject sensibility, experience, subjectivity for the benefit of objectivity.
Nowadays in a rather different historical background, this sociological tradition gives no validity to the «intervention-sociology», on its clinical side. The latter assumes that the field of research is the individual in pain. This science is questioned on the basis of «bricolage», resulting from a too close involvement of the researcher with the actors that the sociologist is investigating on.
The authors inspired with the teachings given by the «sociology of innovation» suggest that the only science which can be available is «bricolée» and claim being scientific when they talk of clinical sociology. They assert that infidelity is necessary to the pure science inherited from a positivist tradition. They are in agreement with a new meaning of fidelity, being thus, faithful to the mind of the founders of the field when they were concerned with breaking up with the prevailing explanations of their times.
