The material for the study comes from published and internet sources as well as from a series of interviews with Kyrgyz anthropologists/ethnologists and academics from other countries who have worked in Kyrgyzstan. The article aims at placing the discipline in the sociocultural and political contexts of socialism and postsocialism in Kyrgyzstan. Badacz jako gość
In: Przegląd socjologii jakościowej: PSJ, Band 12, Heft 3, S. 54-69
ISSN: 1733-8069
Do analizy i interpretacji pozycji badacza w terenie w artykule użyto pojęć "gość" i "gościnność". Jednym z milcząco przyjmowanych założeń podejścia etnograficznego jest gościnność osób badanych wobec antropologa. Korzystając z antropologicznych i filozoficznych koncepcji gościnności, w tekście przedstawiono różne wymiary relacji gospodarz–gość (nierówność, zażyłość i zarządzanie reputacją), dążąc do problematyzacji relacji badacz–badany.

Construction of Self and the Other in the Accounts of Polish Travellers to Post-Soviet Countries
In: Anthropological journal of European cultures: AJEC, Band 18, Heft 2, S. 123-139
ISSN: 1755-2931
Travel is one of the important modes of identity construction. It is influenced by individual choices as well as by macro-contexts of institutional practices and changes. Based on the study of the accounts of young middle-class Polish travellers to the former Soviet Union countries, this article attempts to demonstrate the ways in which macro-processes of systemic transformation and European integration affect the identity-building processes. After offering a discussion of the cultural meanings of emphasising the uniqueness of their experience and difference from 'mainstream tourists' by the travellers, the article turns to the interpretation of the role of the encounter with local dwellers as an important identity-formation related experience. The analysis of the acceptance or rejection of food from local dwellers demonstrates the ambiguous attitude of travellers to the local dwellers and attempts to place this ambiguity in the macro-context.

Pulling Europe closer: the strategy of shame in Polish press discourse on Europe
In: Das Erbe des Beitritts: Europäisierung in Mittel- und Osteuropa, S. 155-169
"This chapter, assesses the role of myth in shaping the Poles' European identities. The author states that myths of European belonging handed down in Polish culture, that were strengthened during the period of Soviet hegemony as a kind of countermemory and iconized in the Slogan of "joining Europe" in the 1990s, served as Charter for action when Poles were to decide about EU accession. It is argued that the Poles, despite their negative expectations regarding the consequences of accession and despite various counter-myths, voted for 'Europe' because they believed in the myth that Poles are historically and culturally European. Thus, accessing the EU meant the fulfilment of an exalted desire present in the national subconscious and a reward for the sacrifices of many generations. This interpretation draws on Sahlin's, Malinowski's, and Leach's understanding of myths as sacred tales structuring actual social action. It is backed by a discussion of survey data on the Poles' negative ex pectations related to EU accession and by an overview of competing myths about Poland's place in Europe." (author's abstract)

Rekonstrukcja praktyk analizy dyskursu na podstawie wybranych anglojęzycznych czasopism dyskursywnych
In: Przegląd socjologii jakościowej: PSJ, Band 9, Heft 1, S. 152-185
ISSN: 1733-8069
Artykuł ma cel eksploracyjny. Podjęto w nim próbę zrekonstruowania praktyk analizy dyskursu na podstawie badania zawartości abstraktów czasopism anglojęzycznych z zakresu analizy dyskursu ("Language in Society", "Discourse Studies", "Discourse and Society", "Language and Communication", "Text and Talk"). Analizie poddano czasopisma mające wysoki współczynnik cytowalności i w związku z tym duży wpływ na wyznaczanie głównych trendów metodologicznych w analizie dyskursu. Obliczono częstotliwość występowania typów materiału badawczego (np. dyskurs ustny i mówiony) i przedmiotu analizy (interakcja instytucjonalna, codzienna, medialna i internetowa) oraz podejść teoretycznych i kategorii badawczych.
