The 11th Annual Assembly of the Croatian Cartographic Society (CCS) took place at the Hall of the Faculty of Architecture, Geodesy and Civil Engineering, Kačićeva 26 in Zagreb on March 15, 2013. The assembly was led by Prof. Dr. Miljenko Lapaine, the president of CCS.At the beginning Assist. Prof. Dr. Dražen Tutić, the Vice-Dean for education and students greeted everyone in behalf of the Faculty of Geodesy. Afterwards, in the first unofficial part, Colonel Dr. Mladen Pahernik held keynote lecture Military Cartography at Croatian Military Academy.After the lecture there was a discussion during which Dr. Pahernik gladly answered to all given questions. Afterwards, the president of CCS awarded the colonel a monograph Topographic maps on the territory of Cro­atia. Miscellaneous ; Jedanaesta godišnja skupština Hrvatskoga kartografskog društva (HKD) održana je 15. ožujka 2013. s početkom u 12 sati u Vijećnici AGG fakulteta, Kačićeva 26 u Zagrebu. Skupštinu je vodio prof. dr. sc. Miljenko Lapaine, predsjednik HKD-a.Najprije je doc. dr. sc. Dražen Tutić, prodekan za nastavu i studente u ime Geodetskog fakulteta pozdravio sve nazočne. Zatim je u prvom, neslužbenom dijelu, pukovnik dr. sc. Mladen Pahernik održao pozvano predavanje Vojna kartografija na Hrvatskom vojnom učilištu.Nakon predavanja razvila se rasprava u kojoj je dr. Pahernik rado odgovarao na postavljena pitanja. Nakon rasprave predsjednik HKD-a je u znak zahvalnosti pukovniku uručio monografiju Topografske karte na području Hrvatske. Purpose: This paper unfolds the ways in which Croatia, as a young post-communist democracy, has aligned its transition and consolidation with the development of education programs that would support the protection of human rights and the creation of a democratic political culture. Design/methodology/approach: By combining the existing studies with the authors' own analyses of documents and internet sources, as well as interviews with teachers, this paper reveals that by adopting vague and non-binding policies, the Croatian political elite has demonstrated a lack of political will and courage over the past twenty-five years to develop a systematic and quality-based citizenship education.Findings: After long-term negligence, in the most recent five-year period, the need to change the educational path has gained prominence on the policy and political agenda. However, the reform process did not result in bridging, but in the deepening of ideological divides within the Croatian society. With the officially adopted interdisciplinary and cross-curricular approach, the responsibility for carrying out citizenship education was placed in the hands of teachers, with civil society organizations taking a compensating role. Whilst the former lack practical education, as well as guidelines and resources to incorporate citizenship education into the subjects they teach, the latter are incapable of reaching out to a sufficient share of the youth population. The outcome is that the youth continuously displays inadequate levels of citizenship competences.

In the past two decades, managing and raising the general level of environmental awareness on all levels of society has become one of the main social goals that has reached a level of social and political consensus unseen ever before. Considering that only things that can be measured can actually be managed, the measuring of environmental awareness based on scientific criteria is becoming increasingly interesting to scientists working in different disciplines. As these disciplines developed, numerous laws were discovered, models were developed and limitations which should be taken into consideration were defined. However, there is a lack of literary sources that could offer a review of scientific knowledge acquired so far and provide a certain "check list" for researchers. The purpose of the present research is to determine and discuss the key issues that should be considered while creating measurement instruments, conducting analysis of research results and interpreting them. Based on the analysis of relevant theoretical cognitions and empirical research results, the paper provides an overview of key issues and categorises them in three groups: issues in measuring different components of attitude, issues concerning the attitude – behaviour gap and issues concerning the influence of social desirability and research sample. By considering all of these issues it is possible to account for and minimize their negative influence and to contribute to the quality, universality and comparability of the obtained results, as well as of the developed models and the defined laws.

This article explores the historical development of youth work in Croatia. By drawing from available data and personal experience, we describe three key phases of youth work development in a post-conflict country: (a) the period of the early 1990s as a "direct peace building" youth work; (b) the rise of nonformal education during the mid and late 1990s; and (c) the growth of a networked youth sector and its focus on youth policy advocacy starting in 2000. In addition, we refer to today's context, particularly because of its project-management orientation. Such categorization highlights various practices that we consider to represent youth work in a specific and contested national framework. Work with young people with fewer opportunities is being presented as a case, building on our observation that contemporary youth work continues to be embedded in civil society development and nonformal education, facing challenges of funding-driven discourse and unsystematic support.
