Peter Rapelje pardon, 1777
Document issued by General William Howe, Commander-In-Chief of the British Army from 1775 to 1778. The document originally contained his seal. The document pardons Peter Rapelje, a quartermaster in Lawrence's Corps. of Newtown in the Province of New York. It is not known how Peter came to be captured, pardoned and released by the British. Though it is possible that he was traded for a British prisoner of war.
