Volunteers will have a vital role in delivering the services of the future. This book explores volunteering in hospice and palliative care worldwide, analysing how and why volunteering is changing. Key topics discussed include influences of culture, legislation, and the place of volunteering within the multi-professional team.
Volunteers have a long been involved in supporting the delivery of palliative care. Indeed in some countries, the range and quality of hospice and palliative care services depends on the involvement of volunteers. Hospice and palliative care services and volunteering are changing. As society develops, so too does volunteering. Volunteers have growing expectations of organisations, and increasingly seek roles that meet their needs and aspirations, rather than fitting in with organisational approaches.
The Millennium Volunteers programme is a UK-wide government supported initiative designed to promote sustained volunteering among young people aged 16-24.
