Medienpädagogik: Herausforderungen für Lernen und Bildung im Medienzeitalter
In: Medien – Wissen – Bildung
The lecture series marks the starting point of media pedagogy as a pedagogical specialization in the degree program for secondary school teachers. It illustrates the manifold challenges for learning and teaching in the media age and is a signal for the increasing recognition of the importance of media in schools, the classroom and further education, as well as in the processes of socialization and lifelong learning. The contributions of established education, media and communication scholars provide insights into the diverse connections between media-related and cultural developments and their relevance to the design, organization and analysis of processes of learning and education.

Media, Knowledge & Education: Exploring new Spaces, Relations and Dynamics in Digital Media Ecologies
In recent years, new and established media have penetrated, challenged, and often surpassed in significance traditional institutions of socialization and education. Moreover, the social organization of knowledge production and distribution has become highly mediated through increasingly complex combinations of information and communication technologies. The papers in this volume are exploring intersections and dynamics of spheres of media, knowledge and education.

Blinde Flecken im Mediensystem?: Qualitätsjournalismus im Krisenmodus
Blind Spots in the Media System?
What criteria can be used to measure journalistic quality in times of crisis? How can reporting be balanced or ""objective"" if every piece of information in the case of conflicts, crises or wars can always also be seen as a partisan factor? To what extent may journalists go too far, and which reporting patterns contribute to the well-being of a democratic and pluralistic public? The contributions to the edited volume ask about the possibilities and limits of a conflict-sensitive journalism that does not want to give up quality claims of balanced reporting, reliable information and multi-perspective offers of orientation even in difficult times.

Talk with the Bots: Gesprächsroboter und Social Bots im Diskurs
In: Edited Volume Series
More and more often, software communicates with and for us. Bots often take over complex tasks unnoticed, and virtual assistants process spoken language. Technological developments now allow us to integrate the services of digital, often voice-based assistance systems into our everyday lives. Particularly in the field of political propaganda and public relations, social bots have for some time been gaining dubious notoriety. Used as an instrument for opinion making, they automatically spread messages in so-called "social" networks. This interdisciplinary volume addresses this issue and seeks answers to questions such as the following: How can we distinguish interaction with artificial intelligences from that with humans? To what extent is this important? What does this development mean for everyday life and for the field of communication? What is the significance of the widespread use of bots as a new interface between humans and machines?; Immer öfter kommuniziert Software mit und für uns.
Activist Media and Biopolitics: Critical Media Interventions in the Age of Biopower
After tactical media became less important, many media activist projects repositioned themselves: in the context of biopolitics they challenge the hegemony of biopower. This volume contains theoretical and empirical contributions to a conference on issues of media activism and biopolitics which has been organized by Innsbruck Media Studies in 2010. Theorists and activists describe and analyze media, whose goal is to enable resistance against regimes of biopower. The control of mobility and visibility, the biopolitics of death, the creation of virtual subjects and chimeras as well as biopolitical production are areas in which activists have intervened and gave rise to a theoretical discourse to which this volume contributes.
