Medienpädagogik: Herausforderungen für Lernen und Bildung im Medienzeitalter
In: Medien – Wissen – Bildung
The lecture series marks the starting point of media pedagogy as a pedagogical specialization in the degree program for secondary school teachers. It illustrates the manifold challenges for learning and teaching in the media age and is a signal for the increasing recognition of the importance of media in schools, the classroom and further education, as well as in the processes of socialization and lifelong learning. The contributions of established education, media and communication scholars provide insights into the diverse connections between media-related and cultural developments and their relevance to the design, organization and analysis of processes of learning and education.
Mobilitäten und Ökologien: Überlegungen zu Paradigmen für mobiles Lernen ; Mobilities and Ecologies: Reflections on Paradigms for Mobile Learning
; Mediated lifeworlds and a diversity of physical, geographical, technological, cultural, and social mobilities involve new challenges for education and learning in a digital age. In recent years, a variety of corresponding conceptualizations and methods has been developed in educational research and practice. One the one hand, we find technologically or culturally abridged concepts and reductionist approaches, more or less dealing with one category or dimension of the topic. On the other hand, there are ambitious approaches dealing with the enormous complexities of the issues concerned. The latter frequently refer to ecological or mobilities frameworks. Moreover, among the many ‹turns› that have been claimed after the linguistic turn, especially the ecological turn and the mobilities turn play an important role in the context of theorizing mobile learning and education. For one thing, a new mobilities paradigm has been proposed, then again various ecological approaches have been promoted, among them media ecology, information ecology, knowledge ecology, socio-cultural ecology, communicative ecology, political ecology, and ecologies of affect. In addition, there are different understandings of ecology, for example, as environment, social movement, moral norm, or network theory. The paper reflects on potentials and limitations of mobilities and ecologies as theoretical frameworks in the context of mobile learning.

Reflections On Media Education Research - Illustrated By The Example Of The Question Of The World Know...
; With current social, technological and political developments, new questions and tasks have arisen for media education. These are outlined in this article, arguing for a further understanding of media education in distinction from traditional views. The expansion of the thematic horizon is exemplified by a pilot study on the question of the world knowledge of media generations. Finally, some reflections on media literacy, the problematic nature of reductions in this respect and their significance in the light of the "medial turn" are put up for discussion.

Talk with the Bots: Gesprächsroboter und Social Bots im Diskurs
In: Edited Volume Series
More and more often, software communicates with and for us. Bots often take over complex tasks unnoticed, and virtual assistants process spoken language. Technological developments now allow us to integrate the services of digital, often voice-based assistance systems into our everyday lives. Particularly in the field of political propaganda and public relations, social bots have for some time been gaining dubious notoriety. Used as an instrument for opinion making, they automatically spread messages in so-called "social" networks. This interdisciplinary volume addresses this issue and seeks answers to questions such as the following: How can we distinguish interaction with artificial intelligences from that with humans? To what extent is this important? What does this development mean for everyday life and for the field of communication? What is the significance of the widespread use of bots as a new interface between humans and machines?; Immer öfter kommuniziert Software mit und für uns.
Globale Bildungsindustrie – Erkundungen zum Stand der Dinge in Österreich: Universität Innsbruck ; Global Education Industry - Exploring the state of affairs in Austria: Universität Innsbruck
; Digitization initiatives in the field of education are always corresponding with developments in the education industry. In recent years, globally networked development dynamics have emerged that are essentially characterized by an education industry complex and are also relevant in Austria. While on the one hand the corona-induced developmental boosts of 'digital' education are welcomed, especially in edtech contexts, on the other hand the international discourses on the problematic role of the global education industry can no longer be ignored. This contribution ties in with these discourses and explores the current state of affairs in Austria. The lack of alternatives to an innovation path, which is often suggested by industry, education policy and education technology, is questioned.
