The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to explore the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of a Tier 2 classroom-based motivational interviewing (MI) intervention—the Aspire Group Intervention (AGI)—designed for ninth-grade students identified as being at high risk for school dropout. The nine-lesson AGI curriculum was grounded in self-determination theory and positive youth development, and aligned with the four processes that characterize MI (i.e., engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning). The intervention was implemented with 38 ninth-grade students in two classrooms in one southeastern high school. Data were collected through pre/post student surveys, implementation fidelity checklists, and teacher interviews. Results suggest students were satisfied and found the intervention helpful. Teachers were satisfied with the intervention overall but shared concerns regarding student engagement and group size due to classroom delivery of the intervention. Implementation data suggest that lessons were slightly longer than a class period and most activities were implemented as intended. The article concludes with a discussion of implications of this study for future refinement of the intervention, along with more general implications for school social work practice.

Abstract
The purpose of this exploratory qualitative study was to understand the types of mental health supports described in school district reopening plans in one southeastern state, and to understand school social workers' involvement in developing these plans during the first full academic year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Publicly accessible school district reopening plans were collected from the 80 school districts in South Carolina, and 15 school social workers participated in virtual interviews. Out of the 80 school districts, 67 had reopening plans, and of those, only 43 percent mentioned mental health services and supports. Most school district reopening plans described Tier 1 universal prevention services and supports and a process for mental health assessment, identification, and referral. Fewer included Tier 2 early intervention and Tier 3 targeted and intensive services. Of the school social workers interviewed, only four were involved in helping to develop their school district reopening plans, and when involved, advocated for mental health services and supports for their students. The article concludes with a discussion of the study's implications for school social work practice.

AbstractThe novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has disrupted the educational system not only in regard to teaching and learning, but also in relation to the other services and supports (mental health services, meal and nutrition programs, and so on) provided to students and families. School district Web sites are critical access points for families during this crisis to learn information about key resources being provided during school closure. This study used content analysis to examine whether school district Web sites in one southeastern state provided information about COVID-19 and 11 other resources. Findings indicate that about half of the Web sites provided both COVID-19 information and additional resources. Few districts provided information on resources for students with disabilities, a subgroup of students at heightened vulnerability during this time of virtual learning. Approximately a third of school district Web sites provided no information on COVID-19 or any of the other resources. The article concludes with a discussion of the implications for school social workers related to crisis response and leadership around contributing to efforts that aim to address educational disparities and inequities and maximize student success during this time of crisis.

Objective: This study describes the development and validation of a perceived social competence scale that social workers can easily use to assess children's and youth's social competence. Method: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted on a calibration and a cross-validation sample of youth. Predictive validity was also established. Results: A four-item measure, labeled the Perceived Social Competence Scale (PSCS) , demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and factorial validity in samples of children and youth participating in youth development programs. Additionally, tests for gender invariance indicated that the PSCS worked equally well for males and females. The PSCS also demonstrated predictive validity, correlating positively with perceived belonging. Conclusion: Support was found for the PSCS as an empirically sound tool to assess children and youth's perceptions of social competence.

Abstract
The current exploratory study examines the impact of the rapid acceleration of telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of healthcare providers. Understanding provider perspectives, particularly in terms of adaptations made during this critical time, is a useful lens into service innovation in times of crisis and can help elucidate successful strategies for continuing the use of telehealth during the postpandemic period. Fourteen providers from 11 different service agencies in a southeastern state were interviewed. Findings identified three themes: (1) dynamic adaptations enacted by healthcare providers at the onset of the pandemic, such as hybrid services, rapid innovations in workflow, collective decision making among providers, and outreach to educate patients; (2) the relaxation of policies by regulators/insurers, focused most often on reimbursement of services; and (3) how patient engagement was impacted via telehealth, including openness to telehealth, more family-level accessibility, and reduced no-show rates. Implications for social workers include heightened professional training on telehealth as well as increasing the critical role that social workers serve in educating providers and patients on telehealth.

Abstract
Social workers and other healthcare professionals face increasing pressure to expand access, efficiency, and quality of healthcare to rural patients. Telehealth has become a viable and necessary tool to address gaps in healthcare for rural areas. Unfortunately, little is known about the benefits and challenges of using these services to meet the needs of rural communities. This mixed-methods study examines telehealth implementation among healthcare organizations in a predominantly rural state. Seventeen providers from 11 organizations were interviewed. Most had used live video conferencing, and about a third used mobile technologies, but fewer providers had experience with store-and-forward or remote patient monitoring. Analyses of qualitative data collected via interviews revealed two main themes among benefits of telehealth implementation: (1) increased inter- and intra-agency coordination and (2) savings in time, travel, and efficiency. Three main themes emerged among barriers to telehealth: (1) organizational capacity, (2) patient skills and comfort, and (3) provider knowledge and skills. Recommendations are provided for social workers and other healthcare professionals related to expanding utilization of telehealth services to improve access to healthcare for rural populations.
