This deliverable reviews and describes the possible objective functions in the MPC formulation for the hybridGEOTABS concept. Model Predictive Control implies the recurring use of an optimization problem in the discrete time which aims to minimize a cost or objective function. In building HVAC applications, typical objectives are the minimisation of the energy use, energy cost or CO2-emissions, while maintaining the indoor environmental quality and thermal balance of the geothermal borefield. This report documents the software and hardware implementation of Model Predictive Controls (MPC) in hybridGEOTABS demonstration buildings in Europe. The MPC construction and the framework for the practical implementation are explained, for white-box and grey-box MPC approaches. Then, the particularities of the implementation of the MPCs in the demonstration buildings is discussed, including a description of the control variables. In this report, the performance of the hybridGEOTABS concept is assessed by quantifying the savings obtained by using hybridGEOTABS combined with Rule Based Controls and Model Predictive Controls, as compared to traditional heating/cooling and control strategies. This quantification is done using dynamic building energy simulations of case‑study buildings in a virtual test‑bed. The energy, cost and environmental performance are assessed.
