South Korea has been under structural adjustment since the economic crisis of 1997. Unlike the advanced countries, Korea has implemented the neo-liberal programs proposed by the IMF. This paper attempts to characterize the changes and their implication for the Korean economy; it shows who benefits and loses in the process and how this affects the future of Korean society. The authors argue that at present, the business gains most of the benefit while the labor force bears most of the burden of adjustment and that this situation threatens the stability of the system. Therefore, they propose that new measures should be introduced to accomodate the voice of workers in adjustment. (AAS/DÜI-Jos)
