The paper is devoted to new finds of the Middle Permian fossil plants, which are kept at the Earth Science Museum of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The palaeobotanical collections of the museum became significantly enriched by the adding of these new specimens. Some attractive specimens having high scientific potentiality (for instance, equisetophytes Annulina neuburgiana (Radczenko) Neuburg and leptosporangiate ferns Pecopteris anthriscifolia (Goeppert) Zalessky) will be used as materials for exhibitions, and will be involved into educational projects of the museum. Discovery of the leaves of cycadophyte affinity allows to develop the idea on possible migration of the termophylic tropical elements into boreal vegetation of the Angara type.

The fossil Permian plants from the locality Vorkuta-1 (outcrop No. 38, left bank of the Vorkuta River nearby the City of Vorkuta opposite the Rudnik settlement) are characterized. The collection is kept at the Earth Science Museum of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The collection includes equisetophytesParacalamites decoratus(Eichwald) Zalessky,P. frigidusNeuburg,Paracalamitinacf.striataZalessky emend. Naug.;Annulina neuburgiana(Radczenko) Neuburg), ferns (Pecopteris anthriscifolia(Goeppert) Zalessky,P. helenaeanaZalessky,P. vorcutanaZalessky,P.cf.leptophyllaBunbury), and leaves of vojnovskyansRufloria spp.and putative ginkgophytes. Stratigraphically the fossil plants studied originated from the Inta Formation belonged to the Vorkuta Series (the Ufimian Stage of the Biarmian (Middle) subdivision of the Permian System). The collection is of great scientific, expositional and didactic potentiality.

The article presents the results of field studies near Northern Railway embankment (Hanovey station) in fieldwork area of Geocryology Department (Lomonosov Moscow State University), where performed: cone penetration test, measuring thickness of active layer of and soil temperatures, monitoring settlement of embankment, laboratory tests. Mathematical model was compiled in the Qfrost program based on these data taking into account the unevenness of the snow cover in the study area. Calculations of the temperature regime of the embankment until 2050, carried out taking into account climatic changes (according to the RCP 4.5 scenario), showed that the thickness of the talik at the embankment will increase 40% in 30 years and without taking this factor into account — 17%. The article also discusses the features of the position and structure of the embankment, the composition and properties of frozen soils, which significantly affect the stability of the embankment.

The paper presents methods and results of experimental studies of the dynamic of the temperature regime, the thickness of active layer and rock heave deformation over a five-year field observations period, as well as the results of predictive modeling of these processes on the Moscow State University Zvenigorod Biological station. The results of comparison of field data with the calculated characteristics based on numerical modelling of heave process are presents.
