This book, first published in 1980, is a comprehensive study of the radical theatre movement in Britain from 1968 to 1978. The essays are based on first-hand interviews, with each section being introduced with a summary of key events before detailing the artists under examination.
Pornography is defined as a form of sex discrimination that contributes to the economic & sexual subordination of women. Social science, psychological, & clinical evidence of links between pornography & sexual violence is summarized, & results are presented of a 1989 survey of 4,000 women conducted by Cosmopolitan magazine, regarding their experience of pornography-related sexual violence. The Campaign against Pornography & Discrimination, along with parliamentary & trade union initiatives in the UK in the 1980s on pornography as a sex discrimination issue are reviewed. Sex discrimination legislation against pornography, enabling women to seek compensation for injury that can be proved to have resulted from pornography (modeled on the US civil rights legislation) or on grounds of incitement to sexual hatred & violence (modeled on the UK Race Relations Act, 1976), is recommended.
