The Ukrainian national movement of the beginning of the 20th century in Crimea is poorly researched, although at that time Ukrainians constituted the third largest ethnic community among the Crimean population. The article reconstructs main milestones in the biography of one of the leading figures of the Ukrainian national movement in Sevastopol and the Black Sea Fleet in 1917–1920, public and political activist, writer and poet Viacheslav Lashchenko (1875–1953). He was born in Yelysavethrad (the modern name of the city is Kropyvnytskyi) in the family of Ukrainian intellectuals. Already during his studies at higher educational institutions, V. Lashchenko took an active part in the Ukrainian national movement, in particular, he organized and headed the Ukrainian Student Community in Warsaw. After receiving a historical and philological education, he taught at schools of the Dnieper Ukraine, where the authorities considered him untrustworthy due to his pro-Ukrainian views and transferred him to new jobs several times. In Sevastopol, during the revolution of 1905–1907, V. Lashchenko combined teaching at the gymnasium with participation in the illegal Ukrainian patriotic circle «Kobzar», which soon he headed. During the revolution of 1917, this organization initiated the creation of the Black Sea Ukrainian Community in the city of Sevastopol, which united several thousand Sevastopol civilians, sailors, officers and soldiers. The community played an important role in the development of the movement for the Ukrainianization of the Black Sea Fleet, most of whose sailors were Ukrainians. V. Lashchenko was elected the first head of the Black Sea Ukrainian Community in Sevastopol. In the summer of 1917, he became a member of the Sevastopol City Council on the list of the Ukrainian Party of Socialist Revolutionaries, and in the autumn, he probably headed the Ukrainian Council of Soldiers' and Workers' Deputies in Sevastopol. During the frequent changes of power in Crimea in 1918–1919, little is known about his activities, and in 1920, during the Wrangel's regime, V. Lashchenko joined the leadership of the Ukrainian National Democratic Bloc, which proclaimed loyalty to P. Wrangel, the idea of statehood of Ukraine as part of federal Russia and the creation of the Ukrainian army. After Crimea was seizured by the Bolsheviks, he emigrated to Czechoslovakia, where he engaged in public, creative and, probably, teaching activities. During the Second World War, he emigrated to the USA, but, according to the researcher, he returned to Czechoslovakia, where he died.

The article examines the problem of Ukrainian newspapers existing among the ethnic Crimean press during the wars and revolutions of 1917–1920. They include publications regardless of their language if published by Ukrainian sociopolitical forces and figures and reflecting their position. In Ukrainian historiography, this topic has been studied scantily and fragmentarily, while some representatives of Russian historiography claim the absence of the Crimean Ukrainian press at that time. However, such a conclusion contradicts the development of the mass Ukrainian national movement in Crimea in 1917 and its need for mass media, as well as the process of the second rise of the press of various Crimean ethnic communities in 1917–1920, well reflected in historiography. Different Ukrainian public and political organizations sought to create periodicals during the period of wars and revolutions, but due to internal problems and opposition from the pro-Russian forces, few of those associations succeeded. The article shows that in 1917–1918 the Ukrainian Council of Military and Workers' Delegates of Sevastopol published its newspaper in Russian, and in May 1918 the Ukrainian-language newspaper Nash Step was launched in Simferopol. Shortly, due to the opposition of the German army, which then occupied Crimea, its editorial office had to move to Melitopol in the northern part of Taurida province, but the newspaper continued to maintain ties with Crimean Ukrainian organizations and cover Crimean socioeconomic and social processes. The author believes that in 1919–1920 in Crimea Ukrainian newspapers could not be published primarily due to frequent changes of the local governments, which mostly did not support the Ukrainian national movement. He also suggests, based on some memoirs and other materials, that in 1917–1918 other Ukrainian newspapers, which have not been found by now, could have existed in Crimea for a short time. He also views such publications as a valuable source on the history of the Ukrainian community in Crimea. ; У статті розглядається проблема наявності у період війн і революцій 1917–1920 рр. серед етнічної преси Криму українських газет, до яких можна віднести видання незалежно від їх мови, якщо вони видавалися українськими суспільно-політичними силами та діячами і відбивали їх позицію. В українській історіографії ця тема вивчалася вкрай мало і фрагментарно, а окремі представники російської історіографії твердять про відсутність кримської української преси у той період. Втім такий висновок суперечить як процесам розгортання у 1917 р. масового українського національного руху в Криму і його потребі у мас-медіа, так і добре відображеному в історіографії процесу другого піднесення преси різних кримських етнічних спільнот у 1917–1920 рр. Аналіз джерел показав, що різноманітні українські громадські і політичні організації Криму прагнули у період війн і революцій утворити періодичні видання, але через внутрішні проблеми та протидію проросійських сил вдалося це небагатьом із цих об'єднань. Українська рада військових і робітничих депутатів Севастополя видавала свою газету російською мовою, а у травні 1918 р. у Сімферополі розпочалося видання україномовної газети «Наш Степ». Невдовзі через протидію німецького війська, яке тоді окупувало Крим, її редакцію довелося перенести до Мелітополя у північній частині Таврійської губернії, але газета і надалі підтримувала зв'язки із кримськими організаціями українців та відображала на своїх шпальтах кримські соціально-економічні та суспільні процеси. The article discusses the concept of the Crimean Tatar Revolution, which began in 1917; the problem of determining its upper chronological boundary; and the activities of the Crimean Tatar national authorities in 1919. As a result of the Russian Empire's policy, in the early 20th century the Crimean Tatar people faced dramatic challenges in the sociopolitical, socioeconomic and ethnodemographic spheres: in their historical homeland, in Crimea, they became a repressed minority, threatened by degradation and assimilation. The 1917 revolutionary events in Russia gave a chance, used by the Crimean Tatar representatives. At that time, the new national elite, formed, first of all, from the nation's intelligentsia, moved the old leading strata (murza and clergy), facilitated the mobilization of the masses around the ideas of national self-organization and the realization of the right for self-determination. The starting point of the Crimean Tatar Revolution was the holding in December 1917 of the Crimean Tatar constituent assembly – Kurultai – which approved the National Constitution, put forward the idea of creating the Crimean People's Republic, and became the national parliament for a period of one year. In 1918, it worked under the difficult conditions of shifting political regimes in Crimea. In early 1919, during the confrontation with the Crimean Provincial Government of S. Kryma and the Volunteer Army, elections were held for a new convocation of the parliament – Majlis Mebusan, which briefly worked in March. At the same time, much attention was paid to the Crimean Tatars' national self-government bodies in the election campaign of the Crimean Sejm, but the capture of Crimea by the Red Army in April 1919 made it impossible to hold elections. The left-radical regime led by the Bolsheviks in Crimea, proclaimed in the spring of 1919 by the Crimean Soviet Socialist Republic, did not last long, but it did show intentions to take into account the Crimean Tatar factor. The dictatorial regime of A. Denikin, who established control over Crimea in the summer of 1919, pursued repressive policies against the Crimean Tatar authorities. According to the author, the violent cessation of self-government in August 1919 marked the end of the Crimean Tatar National Revolution. ; У статті розглядається дискусійний концепт Кримськотатарської революції, яка розпочалася у 1917 р., проблема визначення її верхньої хронологічної межі та діяльність органів національного самоврядування кримських татар у 1919 р. У статті розглядається практика спорудження у 2014–2018 рр. пам'ятників на тимчасово окупованій Росією території АР Крим і м. Севастополя. Показано, що російська та нелегітимна кримська влади використовують установку та демонтаж пам'ятників як елемент окупаційної політики з метою посилення соціокультурної дистанції між кримським населенням та жителями інших частин України, знищення української громадянської ідентичності, маргіналізацію з уможливленням у майбутньому асиміляції кримськотатарської і української етнічної спільнот, виправдання нелегітимних агресивних дій Росії проти України. На тимчасово окупованій території Криму останні чотири роки спостерігається бум спорудження пам'ятників. У статті попередньо проаналізовано кількісні показники цього процесу, а також виявлена тематична спрямованість 127 нових пам'ятників, значна частина яких відображає імперські та неоімперські погляди. Ще чотири значні за розмірами пам'ятники у Севастополі, Керчі і Феодосії перебувають у стадії побудови.Автор відзначив, що дії із встановлення нових пам'ятників на тимчасово окупованій території України не мають законних підстав. За оцінкою дослідника, найближчими роками можна очікувати збільшення їх кількості. Ця діяльність буде супроводжуватися нав'язуванням кримчанам російських антидемократичних стандартів в інформаційній та освітній галузях, культурі та політиці. Тому автор прогнозує збереження тенденції до погіршення ситуації у соціогуманітарній сфері на тимчасово окупованій території АР Крим і м. Севастополя. У статті запропоновано органам влади України кілька заходів реагування на цю ситуацію, серед яких моніторинг процесів незаконного спорудження пам'ятників, правова оцінка таких дій і застосування санкцій до осіб, які проявляють найбільшу активність у протиправній діяльності. ; The article examines the practice of constructing monuments in the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol temporarily occupied by Russia; the investigated period is 2014–2018. It is shown that Russian and illegitimate Crimean authorities use the installation and dismantling of monuments as an element of occupation policy in order to deteriorate the sociocultural distance between the Crimean population and residents of other parts of Ukraine; the destruction of Ukrainian civic identity; marginalization with the possible assimilation of the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian ethnic communities in future; justification of Russia's illegitimate aggressive actions against Ukraine. During the last four years, the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea observed a boom of monument construction. The article analyzes preliminary quantitative indicators of this process, as well as reveals the thematic orientation of 127 new monuments, which predominantly reflects imperial and neo-imperial views. Another 4 significant monuments in Sevastopol, Kerch, and Feodosia are under construction.The author notes that the actions on the installation of new monuments in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine have no legal basis. According to the researcher, in the nearest years it is possible to expect an increase in their number. This activity will be accompanied by the imposition of Russian anti-democratic standards by the Crimeans in the information and education sectors, culture and politics. Therefore, the author predicts preservation of the tendency to deteriorate the situation in the social and humanitarian sphere in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. The article proposes to the Ukrainian authorities several measures for the response to this situation, including monitoring of illegal construction of monuments, legal assessment of such actions, and application of sanctions to those who are the most active in illegal activities.

The article deals with the biography of the extraordinary public and military activist Kharytyna Pekarchuk (1894–1973). She became the first twentieth-century woman to receive a Ukrainian state award. The article examines her life from her birth in Simferopol to participation in the armed defense of the UPR in 1918–1920, including the First Winter campaign of the UPR Army in 1919–1920. ; Стаття присвячена непересічній українській громадській і військовій діячці Харитині Пекарчук (1894–1973). Вона стала першою жінкою, яка отримала українську державну нагороду у ХХ ст. Розглядається її життєвий шлях від народження в Сімферополі до участі у збройному захисті УНР у 1918–1920 рр., в тому числі у Першому Зимовому поході Армії УНР у 1919–1920 рр.

The study is devoted to the analysis of the processes of formation and development, as well as the current state of the structures of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol in the period from 1991 (restoration of Ukraine's independence) to 2022. The UGCC is currently one of the three largest Christian religious organizations in Ukraine. Despite the relatively small number on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula, its parishes in the region play a unique role in the preservation of Ukrainian identity, starting from the end of the 20th century; therefore, the development of religious structures is an important aspect of the consolidation of the community of ethnic Ukrainians in Crimea, which is the second largest ethnic community in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The first congregation of the UGCC on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula was registered in August 1991 as part of the Kyiv-Vyshgorod Exarchate. The formation and development of the structures of the UGCC in Crimea, even under the conditions of Ukraine's independence, took place in circumstances due to organizational difficulties from authorities and public associations opposed to the activities of the UGCC. Accordingly, the main problems of the parishes were the failure to provide land plots for the construction of churches, the lack of religious buildings, and artificial obstacles to their structure. After the events of the so-called "Crimean Spring" in 2014, Ukrainians in Crimea became a discriminated ethnic community under threat of assimilation. Accordingly, the situation of the Crimean Exarchate of the UGCC changed for the worse: almost all priests and part of the parishioners were forced to leave Crimea due to pressure on the Ukrainian community of the peninsula. The parishes of the region underwent forced "re-registration" as an 'exarchate of the Catholic Church of the Byzantine rite', which is directly subject to the Holy See. Still, these structures continue to be under pressure in the absence of their own information resources. In addition, the religious communities of the UGCC in Crimea have the problem of a catastrophic lack of clergy and the subsequent outflow of young and middle-aged parishioners, which can cause their stagnation and a slow decline to the point of disappearance. Analytical intelligence and scientific articles devoted to the situation of the Greek-Catholic communities of Crimea are practically absent.
