The Democratic Progressive Party and the formation of Taiwan's multi-party system

Even though Taiwan was subjected to the rigours of authoritarian one-party rule after the government of the Republic of China was evacuated to the island in 1948 and 1949, opposition forces have never exactly ceased their activity there. In this article the author explores the formation of the Democratic Progressive Party and the evolution of multi-party system in Taiwan. (DÜI-Sen)
