This study is concerned with the analysis, comparism and examination of implementing inquiry in biology using some senior secondary school (SSS1) students in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. The stratified random sampling technique was used considering the type of school, urban/rural and gender in which four secondary schools were drawn from the fifteen secondary schools Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State (ONELGA). From each of the four schools, fifteen (15) SSS1 biology students were picked up randomly into two classes. The study was made up of thirty (30) students from each school. This amounted to a total of one hundred and twenty (120) students from the four schools representing the sample of the study. These research questions with null hypothesis guided the study with the aid of a quasi experimental research design. These students were randomly assigned to two groups (treatment and control group). Treatment group were those taught biology using the sensitized inquiry teaching method while conventional method (lecture) was used for the control group.(1) Biology Achievement Test (BAT) was developed on the following units in biology, flower pollination, muscle structure and function, and seed germination. All these were drawn from anatomy and physiology of flowering plants and animal physiology in the biology textbook of SSl, to measure the initial and terminal academic achievement of the students. (2) Lesson notes were prepared on the above mentioned units using the inquiry teaching method and the conventional method using a pretest, post-test experimental treatment. Thus, it is the contention of the author that the inquiry approach would enhance student's achievement in biology, hence the thrust of the study.

Primary Education is the bedrock of any given national education system. It is the terminal education for a great percentage of Nigeria children and among other States in the global south. Therefore it requires a solid foundation, for on this hinges is the success of subsequent levels. The focus of attention had been on the provision of educational services in the public primary school with the attention effect on the status and quality of public primary products. This paper examines the status and effect of science educational services on the quality of public primary school in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Laical Government Area (ONELGA) in Rivers State of Nigeria. The training of the science teacher requires both theory and practice. Teaching practice refers to a period of guided teaching during which the teacher-trainee or student-teacher assumes increasing responsibilities for directing the learning of a group of students over a period of some weeks, (about 12 weeks in all). Within this period, the student teacher undergoes a periodical apprenticeship under the guidance of supervisors from the training institutions and the co-operating school harboring the student teacher. In the process they endeavour to marry the theory taught and learnt with practice. The processes help them to acquire the necessary new skills, insights, attitudes and responsibilities which are basic to the teaching career/profession.

During the past few decades, resources have been allocated in many parts of the world for developing curricula in school science, which were directed to the need for more scientists that can promote national development. In the light of this, many developing country has emphasized the education of its citizens in Science, Technology and Mathematics (STM). This mode was reflected in the Nigerian National Policy on Education when it recommended an enrolment ratio of 60:40 in favour of STM and related courses in higher institution of learning (Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004). This guideline became necessary in order to boost our manpower development and researches in these professions. The role of STM in the development of a nation cannot be over emphasized as it is very important in solving a country's problem.STM is the base for the overall development of a nation, the instrument for the orderly and ethical behaviour of it citizens.

Resource utilization, curriculum innovation and professional development courses are integral to improve educational practices as they empower teachers with knowledge and skills required for integrating education and society. Such moves and actions need to be guided with research. The education practices in Nigeria need to be sound and grounded. This paper is concerned with the importance of the use of resources for effective understanding of school science with special reference to biology. It identified necessary resources, constraints and how to select and use resources for effective teaching and learning of biology. The selection and utilization of any resources depends on the specific features of a particular topic. Therefore, different sets of resources and strategies are needed to teach different topics.

Aspects of human infection with Onchocerca volvulus was investigated in 9 villages in Okigwe LGA of Imo State, Nigeria between January 2010 and December 2011. The objectives were to compare the prevalence of different manifestations of Onchocerciasis according to gender and age, with view to determine if there had been a change in prevalence of onchocerciasis among residents of some communities in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. A cross sectional survey method was adopted for the study, blood free skin snips were collected from randomly selected consenting adults aged 5-62 years also palpation for mobile subcutaneous lumps and clinical manifestation were observed among 960 persons comprising of 511 males and 449 females. The commonest lesions observed were poor vision 17%, nodules 15%, leopard skin 20%, lizard skin 15%, and hanging groin 3%. Musculo-skeletal pain (MSP) was recorded as one of the major complaints by (30%) of the subjects. The result showed that Onchocerciasis clinical manifestations are still prevalent, however nodules prevalence reduced among sampled population (69.8%) reduction.

Abstract: The study investigated into the effect of grazing on the riparian vegetation along river Benue in Adamawa state Nigeria. Survey and observation design method were used to compare vegetation cover, distribution and composition. Study area was categorized into upper and lower section of riparian and was stratified into grazed and nongrazed. The study sites were delineated into fifty-nine (59) quadrats, observation technique was used to collect data on grazing effects on vegetation composition. Descriptive statistics, components analysis and paired T-test were used to analyze data. Study revealed, decrease in plant species productivity, plant vigor/resilience, diversity in native palatable species and increase in plant species extinction, diversity of on non-palatable native species as effects of grazing on vegetation. There is a variation in the distribution, composition diversity of plan species amidst grazed and nongrazed sites at p = 0.05 of the paired T-test result. Decline in plant growth 0.759 and decrease in plant species diversity 0.748 are some of the loaded variable for the enormous change in vegetation structure due to grazing. Themeda triandra and Cynodon dactylon are the most affected plants sensitive to grazing effects, while Aristida mutabilis and imperata cylindra are the friendliest to grazing due to their unpalatable nature. Grazing effects amidst the upper and lower riparian sections is almost some with the effect severe on plant growth in all the sections with 22 percent. Study recommends that; as a matter of policy, governments at and federal level, traditional and community leaders should adopt modern grazing strategies or measure. Should empower and encourage the community base organizations, traditional authorities to participate at the grass root development and implementation of environmental law or policies. Abstract: The study investigated into the spatial and socio economic consequences of grazing in the riparian on the livelihood of the community along river Benue in Adamawa state Nigeria. Survey design was used and involved 232 respondents selected randomly from the communities along the riparian areas. Data were collected using the researcher made questionnaire, descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation were used to analyze data. The findings revealed a strong negative relationship at (r = 0.852, p < 0.05), conclusively indicate negative implication on the sustainability of socio-economic activities among communities along river Benue. The study revealed economic effects of grazing as; decrease in habitat and fish productivity, decrease in wild foods and medicinal plants, cultural and recreational potentials among others. Social effects include deteriorating quality of sanitation, poor quality of life and increase in communicable diseases among others. Study further revealed variation in the socio-economic effects of grazing on the livelihoods amidst community in the upper and lower section of the riparian Findings revealed that communities along the lower section of the riparian has more severe weight of both social and economic effects compare to the upper section of the riparian. Study recommends Federal, State government agencies in alliance with traditional authorities and community base organizations; should use research institutions, and universities to push for research projects to educate the society towards having a healthy riparian. Enhance strategies and application of national ranch grazing system which will help in the rehabilitation of the upland vegetation, safeguarding the riparian for a better ecological services.

The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of flood disaster due to climate change on food security of flood disaster victims in Anambra and Imo States of Nigeria. A sample of 120 people drawn from 34 local government areas of the affected communities was selected using simple random sampling. A Structured questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection, using a design time survey design. The results revealed that there was food insecurity as a result of destruction of the crops by flood and lack of land to cultivate since most of the lands were flooded. This resulted to malnutrition, hunger, and poverty. It was revealed that though Home Economics Extension Workers, the problem of food insecurity could be reduced in these areas. Based on these findings recommendations were made, among which was that the government should use Home Economics Extension Workers to distribute food and drugs to the affected areas to improve their health and food security.

The paper states the need for effective use of ICT by institutional administrators in maintaining and controlling according to policies laid down by the governing bodies of the institution. He has to plan in his capacity as an administrator in ensuring effective institutional services. The paper highlights various ICT resources that can be used for effective and efficient institutional administration. It also states some of the benefits and challenges of the use of ICT institutional administration. It is the contention of this paper that though using ICT in Nigerian institutional administration may seem difficult, it is imperative to take advantage and invest in these ICTs to deal with the huge pressure faced in the institutional administration. The remarks highlights the need for infrastructure and how political will push ICT ahead.
