Les pensionnats autochtones sont des institutions ayant été en activité de la fin du 19e siècle à la fin du 20e siècle, que des enfants autochtones ont été forcés de fréquenter au Canada. Des enquêtes ont démontré que plusieurs jeunes fréquentant ces institutions y ont été victimes de négligence et de mauvais traitements. Les conséquences négatives découlant des mauvais traitements durant l'enfance ont été amplement documentées, notamment à travers les travaux de la Commission de vérité et réconciliation du Canada. Néanmoins, très peu d'études quantitatives ont été réalisées à ce sujet. L'objectif de cette recherche est de documenter, chez une population autochtone du Québec, les impacts associés à la fréquentation des pensionnats chez les survivants, mais également chez leurs enfants devenus adultes. Au total, 301 participants autochtones ont été rencontrés. Parmi les participants, 26,9 % ont fréquenté les pensionnats et 45,5 % ont un parent qui les a fréquentés. Les résultats indiquent que la fréquentation des pensionnats est associée à une probabilité plus élevée d'avoir vécu des traumas (agression sexuelle, agression physique, violence conjugale, etc.) dans l'enfance ou à l'âge adulte. Les résultats révèlent également que la fréquentation des pensionnats est associée à plusieurs difficultés, notamment à la consommation problématique d'alcool ou de drogues, au jeu problématique et à la détresse psychologique. Les résultats de cette étude soulignent l'importance de tenir compte des conséquences des traumatismes historiques et intergénérationnels liés aux pensionnats dans notre compréhension de la situation actuelle des peuples autochtones du Canada.

This 15-year longitudinal study investigated with follow-up data how romantic patterns from ages 16 to 24 are associated with romantic involvement and turnover (ages 25–30), romantic dispositions (age 30) and romantic relationships characteristics (age 30). A sample of 255 individuals (60.8% women) identified all their romantic partners between the ages of 16 and 24. Between ages 25 and 30, participants identified all their romantic partners and the length of each relationship. At age 30, they also completed a series of questionnaires regarding romantic dispositions and if it applied, characteristics of their current romantic relationship. Results indicated continuity in the romantic sphere from adolescence to established adulthood. At age 30, romantic patterns were associated with: avoidance of intimacy, jealousy, global romantic satisfaction, relationship status and the duration of the current romantic relationship. Together, these results bring new information on romantic development from adolescence to established adulthood.

AbstractChild maltreatment has been a prominent topic on the political agenda for the past decade. However, while there are several types of interventions that can potentially benefit the prevention of child maltreatment, uncertainties remain regarding the transferability of these interventions to different contexts and their overall impact. Consequently, we conducted a systematic review of intervention studies aimed at preventing child maltreatment. We searched for studies published between 2016 and 2021, using predefined keywords from various bibliographical databases including PsycINFO, SocINDEX, Social Care Online, Web of Science, and ASSIA. The initial literature search yielded 3221 studies based on titles and abstracts, after removing duplicates. Out of these, 251 studies were screened based on full texts, resulting in the selection of 56 studies that met our inclusion criteria and were retained for extraction and analysis. The screening and data extraction processes were conducted by at least two independent reviewers. Given the heterogeneity of the included studies, we performed a narrative synthesis and categorized the 56 studies based on intervention type, control condition, outcomes, effects and quality. The results indicated that most of the studies employed individual randomization, with the control group most often receiving treatment as usual. Home visiting programs and educational interventions emerged as the most prevalent types of interventions. The review also demonstrated that a significant number of the included studies reported positive effects on one or more outcomes, such as indicators of maltreatment, suboptimal parenting practices, and problematic child behaviors. While nearly one-third of the studies did not report an effect size, those that did reported varying types of effect sizes. Additionally, only a few studies met the assessed quality criteria.
