The book takes a natural and necessary direction on the path to the modernization of the critical tradition, choosing Facebook, which has provided numerous reasons to be criticized by the author of this book, and by others. After a relatively long stage of cognitive optimism which prevailed in the discourse on the internet and democracy, this relationship has begun to be looked at with increasing caution and doubt (Loader & Mercea, 2011). With Brexit, Trump and several other 'phenomena' around the world, we have become disillusioned about the ability of the internet in its modern incarnation to help us rebuild a badly bruised democracy (Tucker et al., 2017). The book systematically identifies these illusions, accusing Facebook of exerting an adverse impact on social discussion, redistribution of goods, social relations and values, access to reliable information and so on. Using the concept of myth (cf. Barthes), the author argues that Facebook covertly constructs our vision of reality the same way television did in the past.

The transition of the Polish political system has had a significant influence on the shape of public discourse. Undoubtedly, politicians' and society members' disposition to paranoid behaviour is the reason of public debate`s exacerbation and deep conflict between conservatives and liberals. The abundance of political changes, breakthrough circumstances and crisis situations in the last few years have fuelled this trend. In fact, the influence of political paranoia on Polish discourse seems to be destabilised and it provokes a question: how to make debate more substantive and rational?

Wynika to nie tylko z dużej ilości czasu spędzanego każdego dnia przed ekranami i innymi nośnikami informacji, ale i coraz większej "intymności" w relacjach z urządzeniami – większość Polaków (ok. 64% w 2017 r. w grupie 15+) posiada smartfon, który daje możliwości bycia online niemalże w każdym momencie życia. Należy założyć, iż w grupie młodzieży szkolnej, odsetek ten jest większy. Celem artykułu jest ich zestawienie i próba zrewidowania założeń teoretycznych dotyczących pojęcia socjalizacji politycznej. Poddajemy w wątpliwość aktualność pewnych założeń ery przedinternetowej w stosunku do współczesnych realiów świata funkcjonującego w trybie permanent-logged-in. Wysuwamy też propozycję kilku rekomendacji mogących stanowić podstawę do bardziej użytecznego społecznie wykorzystania mediów w obszarze dostosowania się (w szczególności młodej) jednostki do życia w warunkach demokracji medialnej.

Marketing activity in the field of social media has seemed to be more professional for few years. This communication channel (web 2.0) is established and frequently used on the market of products and services. Social media services are also in progress. They are focused of big data, sale support or profiling offers at an angle of brand fan`s behavior in social media. Collaterally, similar activities in the field of politics appear. The objective of this article is answering the question: what is the attitude of the Internet users to promotion activities like this? It seems to be important from the effective and specific point of view in political communication of social media. Thus, we conducted research described in this text that is going to verify if social media services are the source of knowledge about politics in Poland. What is more, we wanted to check in which way the Internet users find information about politics and what is their level of engagement `around` politicians` online activity. ; Działania marketingowe w obszarze mediów społecznościowych od wielu lat ulegają procesowi profesjonalizacji. Na rynkach produktów i usług kanał ten (web 2.0) ma już charakter ugruntowany. Rozwija się też rynek usług social media zajmujący się badaniami wielkiej ilości danych, wsparciem sprzedaży czy profilowaniem ofert pod kątem zachowań fanów określonych marek w serwisach społecznościowych. Równolegle pojawiają się też podobne próby działań w sferze polityki. Celem artykułu jest więc odpowiedzenie na pytanie: jaki stosunek mają użytkownicy Internetu do tego typu zabiegów promocyjnych? Wydaje się to istotne z punktu widzenia specyfiki i skuteczności narzędzi komunikowania politycznego w social media. Stąd przeprowadzone i opisane w artykule badania mające na celu sprawdzić m.in. na ile serwisy społecznościowe są źródłem wiedzy o polityce, w jaki sposób ich użytkownicy poszukują informacji na ten temat i jaki jest poziom ich zaangażowania online w działania samych polityków.

It is no coincidence that anti-democratic changes in the recent years in Poland occurred alongside the rapid development of social media. Technologically advanced methods of discourse management (e.g., behavioral targeting) have successfully exploited the poor understanding of social media mechanisms among Poles1 (Drzewiecki, 2010) and created a fertile ground for undermining liberal democracy. Social media have endangered public debate by facilitating the spread of hate speech, fake news, deep fakes, trivialization of public discourse, astroturfing,2 and the use of bots for propaganda purposes. It seems that in the young and unstable Polish democracy, the combination of anti-democratic forces and dynamic development of social media poses a unique threat to the development of society.
