This article explores women's work orientations, and how these vary between social classes. Empirically it focuses on women who do not (yet) have dependent children. The first part of the article reviews debates about women's work orientations, including the extent to which women's labour market behaviour is shaped purely by individual preferences or structural constraints. It then examines the factors that influence the development and expression of work orientations. The second part of the article explores the work orientations of 20 young white women aged 20-30, living in the city of Oxford in the UK. Analysis of in-depth interviews with these young women indicate a range of attitudes towards paid work, which varied between social classes. While women in professional/managerial occupations were more likely to value intellectual stimulation and the intrinsic nature of the work they did, women in routine/manual occupations emphasised the importance of financial reward, routine and social interaction.

More and more cities around the world are adopting green-city labels and are making use of their urban environmental policymaking for the purpose of place branding. However, the nature of the relationship between the branding of green cities and urban environmental policymaking is contested. Some researchers have highlighted so-called 'greenwashing' and the cherry-picking of easily attained goals. Others argue that green branding is driven by altruism, rather than intra-urban competition and entrepreneurialism. Drawing on literatures on policy tourism and green place branding, this article presents a longitudinal study of green branding in Växjö, Sweden. It contributes to the debate on green place branding by showing how two sets of contradictory impulses – entrepreneurialism/competition versus altruism/cooperation, and cherry-picking/greenwashing versus comprehensive environmental policymaking – affect the relationship between green place branding and environmental policy. In particular, the analysis illuminates the changing role played by policy tourism in shaping both the development of environmental policies and branding practices.

Sudan's Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005 ended over two decades of civil war and led to South Sudan's independence. Peacemaking that brought about the agreement and then sought to sustain it involved, alongside the Sudanese, an array of regional and western states as well as international organisations. This was a landmark effort to create and sustain peace in a war-torn region. Yet in the years that followed, multiple conflicts continued or reignited, both in Sudan and in South Sudan. Peacemaking attempts multiplied. Authored by both practitioners and scholars, this volume grapples with the question of which, and whose, ideas of peace and of peacemaking were pursued in the Sudans and how they fared. Bringing together economic, legal, anthropological and political science perspectives on over a decade of peacemaking attempts in the two countries, it provides insights for peacemaking efforts to come, in the Sudans and elsewhere

A qualitative study using photo-elicitation was conducted to investigate the experiences of family members attending a residential burn camp. Six families were provided with cameras and asked to take photographs of their time at camp. They were subsequently interviewed about their experiences of camp, using their photographs as prompts. Thematic analysis of interview transcripts identified three main themes: benefits for the family as a whole (new activities and experiences and lasting impacts), benefits for the child (having fun without feeling different), and benefits for the parent/carer (support from those who understand). This is the first study to specifically investigate the experience of the whole family at a burn camp and suggests that attendance may offer a number of benefits for parents/carers and children. Photo-elicitation was an effective method for encouraging participants to recall and discuss their time at camp, and should be considered in future burns research.
