Since the early 1980s India believed that Sri Lanka was becoming an imminent threat to her security because of the "increasing foreign involvement" in the island, and this concern was fully shared by Moscow. The author aims at analysing the way in which this threat perception has effected the attitude of the Soviet Union to recent developments between India and Sri Lanka. (DÜI-Sen)
