In the context of global climate change, many countries have taken corresponding measures to cope with the stormwater problems in urbanization. The Chinese government introduced the concept of Sponge City to improve the urban water ecological security, which is a systematic project. Taking the urban community as our research object, we studied the combination application of LID (low-impact development) measures and retention ponds in the community and then discussed the practicability of the systematic application of Sponge City facilities in the construction of community drainage systems. There are four simulation scenarios in SWMM (stormwater management model): traditional drainage scenario, LID scenario, retention pond scenario, and LID-retention pond scenario. By comparing the effects of different facilities on runoff and outflow under the six return periods of 1a, 2a, 5a, 10a, 20a, and 50a, we find that LID measures have evident effects on runoff and outflow reduction. Still, they are greatly affected by the return period. The retention pond has no noticeable impact on runoff, but it reduces the peak value of outflow and is less affected by the return period. The combination of LID and retention pond can combine their advantages, reduce the peak flow rate of the site stably and relieve the pressure of the urban drainage system. This study provides a basis for the graded implementation of Sponge City, especially for community-scale rainwater regulation.

AbstractThis study examines the effects of different marketing and manufacturing factors on the perceived quality gap and willingness to pay (WTP) for genuine luxury brands. Using the survey data of 786 Chinese consumers, the results show that three marketing factors (product innovation, price promotion, and sales environment) and two manufacturing factors (production in country of brand origin and difficulty in producing the products) all indirectly influence WTP through a perceived quality gap between originals and counterfeits. These effects differ significantly among consumers with different counterfeit and genuine brand purchasing experiences. For consumers with counterfeit purchasing experience, it is important to emphasize the manufacturing factors in the marketing strategies; however, for consumers who only buy genuine brands, marketing factors play a more important role. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the importance of channel partners' government relations within channel performance and explore how institutional factors interact to influence channel performance. A theoretical framework, inclusive of hypotheses, is proposed to demonstrate the interaction of government relations and institutional environments on firm performance. Drawing on an institutional perspective, this paper suggests that the effect of partner's government relations on firm performance is moderated by institutional environment factors, such as government interference, legal protection, and the importance of guanxi.Design/methodology/approachThis study conducted a questionnaire survey and collected data from 393 Chinese manufacturer managers in China.FindingsPartner's government relations increase focal firm's performance and this effect is moderated by different levels of legal protection. Partner's government relations increase firm performance only in the context of high-legal protection; whereas, when legal protection is low, partner's government relations decrease focal firm performance. As for the interaction of institutional factors, legal protection and importance of guanxi, all three moderate the negative effect of government interference on firm performance.Originality/valueThis paper provides insights on how channel partner's government relations, representing a key institutional capital, interact with institutional environment factors to influence channel performance.

We investigated whether or not consumers' attitudes toward luxury brands differ between the young and older generations in China, and, if they do differ, how this manifests. In Study 1, data were collected from 210 participants. The results showed that Chinese consumers born after 1979
(young) value luxury brands more than do consumers born before 1979 (older). In Study 2, we conducted a survey with 623 consumers from the angle of perceived luxury value to investigate why such differences exist. The results showed that, for young Chinese consumers, luxury brands evoked a
greater sense of perceived luxury value, that is, stronger self-identity, higher status, and more conspicuousness and hedonic value, than did nonluxury brands; the perceived luxury value related significantly to Chinese consumers' purchase intention for luxury brands.

The process of how ordinary people evolve to be well-known by delivering varied digital media content (i.e. micro-celebrification) remains perplexing. This study examines the role of mutation strategy featuring: (1) mutation diversity (the degree of evenness of content distribution across mutated styles) and (2) mutation divergence (i.e. the degree of inhomogeneity among mutated content styles), in predicting the success of micro-celebrification for ordinary people with varying talent levels. The results of survival analysis of a talent competition streamed on a major digital media platform in China suggest that a more diverse mutation in media content yields a higher chance of micro-celebrity success among participants in the competition. Interestingly, less talented participants benefit more from increasing mutation diversity compared with highly talented peers. Moreover, higher mutation divergence in the emotion evoked by media content increases the chance of success in micro-celebrification, opposite to that in the content genre and creator trait.
