Part I explores feminist perspectives on neoliberal globalizationto highlight conceptual issues surrounding public and private provision of services in the context of neoliberal economic and political processes. Part II offers a conceptual synthesis of research methodologies used in gender and development studies with an emphasis on applied aspects of feminist methodologies. Part III examines resources and the environment to explore how environmental disasters, threats and recovery efforts are gendered.Studies from different world regions illustrate the relevance of transnational feminist analyses in mitigating environmental and disaster impacts. Finally, Part IV analyzes gendered mobility and social movements that are linked to global economic, cultural, and political forces. Data from both published & unpublished sources are used to survey the geographical dimensions of employment for African-American women in the US & Canada. It is found that women's commuting & spatial access to work is intimately connected to their economic status. Moreover, it is indicated that African-American women commute longer than white women, & that the gender gap in commuting that is often reported in the white community does not hold for the African-American community. It is argued that longer commutes are caused by lack of access to private transportation & poor social & spatial access to jobs. An agenda for future research into this area is outlined. 58 References. D. M. Smith
