This report presents the demographic situation in Kenya, focusing in particular on fertility and mortality. The mortality rate as well as the birth rate have both declined markedly in the late 1970s and 1980s. The report analyses these changes at the district and province levels and for Kenya as a whole, and examines the socioeconomic factors that are associated with these demographic phenomena. The Kenyan government's family policy and programmes are also examined. (DÜI-Hff)
