Como respuesta a la emergencia sanitaria, las instituciones de educación superior han tenido que migrar forzosamente a la virtualidad. Esto ha impactado en los agentes del entorno educativo, tanto en la enseñanza como en el aprendizaje. Por esta razón, en este artículo se analizarán las características particulares de la educación virtual y los principios de la enseñanza en este contexto. Asimismo, se describirán propuestas para diseñar experiencias educativas virtuales considerando las teorías motivacionales, del aprendizaje, y el diseño instruccional aplicado a la educación virtual. En esta misma línea, se discuten los retos que impone la pandemia para la educación universitaria y se proponen líneas de acción para la creación de experiencias educativas no presenciales. Se concluye que existe una necesidad imperante de capacitar a los profesores de tal manera que puedan usar las distintas herramientas digitales a su disposición y reconocer la unicidad de la educación virtual en contraposición a las clases tradicionales.

Uniform Eu-doped NaGd(WO4)2 nanophosphors with a spherical shape have been synthesized for the first time by using a wet chemistry method based on a homogeneous precipitation process at low temperature (120 °C) in ethylene glycol/water mixtures. The obtained nanoparticles crystallized into the tetragonal structure and presented polycrystalline character. The europium content in such phosphors has been optimized through the analysis of the luminescence dynamics (lifetime measurements). Near-ultraviolet and visible excitable Eu- and Bi-doped NPs based on rare earth vanadates (REVO4, RE = Y, Gd) have been synthesized by a facile route from appropriate RE precursors, europium and bismuth nitrate, and sodium orthovanadate, by homogeneous precipitation in an ethylene glycol/water mixture at 120 °C. The NPs can be functionalized either by a one-pot synthesis with polyacrylic acid (PAA) or by a Layer-by-Layer approach with poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and PAA. In the first case, the particle size can also be tuned by adjusting the amount of PAA. The Eu- Bi-doped REVO4 based nanophosphors show the typical red luminescence of Eu(III), which can be excited through an energy transfer process from the vanadate anions, resulting in a much higher luminescence intensity in comparison to the direct excitation of the europium cations. The incorporation of Bi into the REVO4 structure shifts the original absorption band of the vanadate anions towards longer wavelengths, giving rise to nanophosphors with an excitation maximum at 342 nm, which can also be excited in the visible range. The suitability of such nanophosphors for bioimaging and biosensing applications, as well as their colloidal stability in different buffer media of biological interest, their cytotoxicity, their degradability at low pH, and their uptake by HeLa cells have been evaluated. Rare earth based nanostructures constitute a type of functional materials widely used and studied in the recent literature. The purpose of this review is to provide a general and comprehensive overview of the current state of the art, with special focus on the commonly employed synthesis methods and functionalization strategies of rare earth based nanoparticles and on their different bioimaging and biosensing applications. The luminescent (including downconversion, upconversion and permanent luminescence) and magnetic properties of rare earth based nanoparticles, as well as their ability to absorb X-rays, will also be explained and connected with their luminescent, magnetic resonance and X-ray computed tomography bioimaging applications, respectively. This review is not only restricted to nanoparticles, and recent advances reported for in other nanostructures containing rare earths, such as metal organic frameworks and lanthanide complexes conjugated with biological structures, will also be commented on. ; European Union 267226 ; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad MAT2014-54852-R

he role of genetic variation in autophagy-related genes in modulating autophagy and cancer is poorly understood. Here, we comprehensively investigated the association of autophagy-related variants with colorectal cancer (CRC) risk and provide new insights about the molecular mechanisms underlying the associations. After meta-analysis of the genome-wide association study (GWAS) data from four independent European cohorts (8006 CRC cases and 7070 controls), two loci, DAPK2 (p = 2.19 × 10-5) and ATG5 (p = 6.28 × 10-4) were associated with the risk of CRC. Mechanistically, the DAPK2rs11631973G allele was associated with IL1 β levels after the stimulation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with Staphylococcus aureus (p = 0.002), CD24 + CD38 + CD27 + IgM + B cell levels in blood (p = 0.0038) and serum levels of en-RAGE (p = 0.0068). ATG5rs546456T allele was associated with TNF α and IL1 β levels after the stimulation of PBMCs with LPS (p = 0.0088 and p = 0.0076, respectively), CD14+CD16- cell levels in blood (p = 0.0068) and serum levels of CCL19 and cortisol (p = 0.0052 and p = 0.0074, respectively). Interestingly, no association with autophagy flux was observed. Here, we assessed whether 36 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the TNFSF4 and MAPKAPK2 loci influence the risk of developing invasive aspergillosis (IA). We conducted a two-stage case control study including 911 high-risk patients diagnosed with hematological malignancies that were ascertained through the aspBIOmics consortium. The meta-analysis of the discovery and replication populations revealed that carriers of the TNFSF4 rs7526628T/T genotype had a significantly increased risk of developing IA ( p = 0.00022). We also found that carriers of the TNFSF4 rs7526628T allele showed decreased serum levels of TNFSF14 protein ( p = 0.0027), and that their macrophages had a decreased fungicidal activity ( p = 0.048). In addition, we observed that each copy of the MAPKAPK2 rs12137965G allele increased the risk of IA by 60% ( p = 0.0017), whereas each copy of the MAPKAPK2 rs17013271T allele was estimated to decrease the risk of developing the disease ( p = 0.0029). Mechanistically, we found that carriers of the risk MAPKAPK2 rs12137965G allele showed increased numbers of CD38+IgM-IgD- plasmablasts in blood ( p = 0.00086), whereas those harboring two copies of the allele had decreased serum concentrations of thymic stromal lymphopoietin ( p = 0.00097). Finally, we also found that carriers of the protective MAPKAPK2 rs17013271T allele had decreased numbers of CD27-IgM-IgD- B cells ( p = 0.00087) and significantly lower numbers of CD14+ and CD14+CD16- cells ( p = 0.00018 and 0.00023).
