The purpose of the article was to analyze German-French cooperation in the face of the biggest crises and challenges to bilateral relations for France and Germany in the first two decades of the 21st century. President Macron's European offensive, with the EU reform package, was carried out in order to strengthen the role of Paris in European integration and international politics. Chancellor Merkel's experience in the European policy of Germany made her quite cautious in approving the ambitious, far-reaching reforms, which could add to the instability during an already difficult time for the EU

The aim of the article was to analyse the Germany's European policy under the rule of Chancellor A. Merkel in terms of solving emerging crises in the European Union in the 21st century. The author presented a thesis that despite the scale of problems, Chancellor Merkel was successful in finding solutions favourable to Europe. Her methods were often controversial and debatable, but she was able to break the resistance of her opponents. After Brexit, her greatest objectives were to maintain the cohesion of Member States and to guide the EU safely through the COVID-19 epidemic.

The author indicates in the article that the conflict over Transnistria was not int the field of German close interests. The main task of the German government was to maintain good relations with Russia and to grant it the role of the main mediator in the dispute between Moldova and rebellious Transnistria. On the other hand, Germany, as an EU member, sought to stabilize the region and to bring about democratic and pro-European changes in Moldova. Berlin supported negotiations between the conflicted parties within the OSCE framework albeit aware that they were a sham and would not contribute to the resolution of the conflict. Both the people of Transnistria and Moldova are committed to maintaining the status quo. The absence of physical violence and minor economic and legal tensions have encouraged Western Europe to remain indifferent to Transnistria's problems. In the article the author used the following research methods: historical, descriptive, source analysis and decision making method.
