The religious and theological basis of the components of the teachings of a healthy lifestyle of members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, namely the principles of hygiene and appearance of the faithful of this denomination, are analyzed.
The purpose of the article is to determine the theological basis of the principles of hygiene and appearance of the faithful of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The peculiarities of the Adventists' interpretation of the Holy Scriptures regarding the application of the Old Testament hygienic instructions in the conditions of modern realities are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on a number of principles in Adventism regarding the contents of a Christian's wardrobe. It is highlighted that from the Adventist point of view, it is the clothing and appearance of a person that is an important indicator of a Christian character and a silent testimony to the values that a person adheres to. It is emphasized that important in the appearance of a person are gender differences in clothing, which clearly indicates a male or female identity. Emphasis is placed on regular consumption of sufficient water to prevent and improve physical condition, and good health in turn is a reliable basis for the perception of high moral values, including spiritual ones. The analysis of the theological basis of the principles of hygiene and appearance of members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church presents a holistic concept of Adventists, namely: human health is three interrelated components: physical, mental and spiritual. The key thesis of the theological basis in Adventism on hygiene and appearance is the following statement: there is no point in disturbing the Lord's prayers if one ignores the moral principles and laws of hygiene and appearance that are already set forth in the Scriptures and understandable because most diseases is the result of a wrong way of life and a departure from moral and ethical Christian values.
A number of publications in the media were analyzed in order to determine the attitude of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to the political activity of Adventist believers. It is determined that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is non-political, but some believers are interested in the topic of «politics» through discussion publications: whether Adventists are allowed to engage in political activity, under what conditions, under what circumstances, and so on. It has been studied that Adventists, if they wish, take an active part in political elections without agitating others to vote for one candidate or another. It has been established that despite the low interest of Ukrainian Adventists in political activity, members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church do not ignore political issues or completely distance themselves from this sphere of public activity. It has been found that a number of Adventist publications contain detailed reflections on political issues in the form of concepts that demonstrate the Church's clear priorities on the issue. These priorities are outlined as follows: politics is a good thing when it is an instrument of good, but an Adventist should first be a citizen of the «new Jerusalem» and then a citizen of the earthly country and a participant in political processes. In addition, the key position of Adventists in the sphere of political activity was established: «The Church as the people of God should not count on any alliance in the political sphere» in order to obtain the status of the state religion. However, an analysis of Seventh-day Adventist Church publications shows that biblical morality and the law of God are recognized by Adventists as superior to one's particular political position. Therefore, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is an organization that opposes violence, lawlessness, and misanthropic policies. That is why Adventists mostly occupy a niche exclusively in the social, philanthropic and humanitarian spheres, trying to compensate for their low activity in politics. The purpose of the work is to reveal the peculiarities of the Seventh-day Adventist military service under the condition of the historical context analysis (the religious confession/denomination emergence, formation, and development) with emphasis on the situation in independent Ukraine. The methodology of the research is based on the principles of historicism, systematicity, scientificity, verification, the author's objectivity, as well as on the application of the general scientific: analysis, synthesis, generalization methods. The scientific novelty is that for the first time, on the basis of the foreign sources and the Ukrainian lists of the legislative and regulatory acts on military duty and military service, the Seventh-day Adventist military service was comprehensively considered in the United States of America, during World War I and World War II, in the Soviet and modern Ukraine. The Conclusions. The study highlights the main stages of discourse between the state's need for self-protection and the religious beliefs of the Adventists. It has been revealed that during World War I and World War II there were compromises on the principle of non-participation in hostilities, carrying weapons, and breaking the Fourth Commandment (Keep the Sabbath day holy). It has been revealed that the US Adventists were able to establish cooperation with the armed forces and create a special program, which was called the "Medical Training for the Servicemen", which is relevant today. The military service and military duty issues in the Ukrainian context have been considered. It has been found out that the church members in Ukraine, who refused to carry weapons, had an opportunity to choose an alternative (non-military) service instead of the conscript military service. However, in a state of martial law or a state of emergency, certain restrictions may be imposed on citizens' right to take alternative (non-military) service, indicating the duration of these restrictions.
