The article presents a transcript of a round-table discussion by Russian political analysts of the BRIC alliance, which includes Brazil, Russia, India and China. The discussants emphasize that BRIC is not a traditional alliance of nations corresponding to a specific, coherent geographic area, but a new kind of multilateral organization which represents an alliance formed solely on the basis of common interests within the global economy. BRIC's strength lies in the fact that it is not a formal organization but an attempt to pragmatically combine the potential of four countries in order to enhance each entity's standing in international affairs. The discussants provide a detailed analysis of statistical data which can be used to compare the interests and developmental positions of the four countries. Kenny Cargill
