The phenomenon of the city is a complex socio-cultural matter, which is analysed from different points of view in the studies of the humanities. Currently more and more scholars, such as philosophers, literary critics, philologists, linguists, urbanists, psychologists, sociologists, are engaged in analyzing the problem of urbanism both in the field of real life and in the context of literary narratives. It takes place because, since the era of modernism and up to the present day, the linguistic and cultural representation of images of cities by various authors, including V. Woolf, goes beyond a simple toponymic description. The main aim of this article is to analyze the linguistic means that create the image of the city as one of the fundamental problems of modernist literature on the example of the novel "Mrs. Dalloway" by V. Woolf. In this novel, London is described as a concentration of individually perceptual, cultural, social, geographical, and historical aspects, that generally create an authentic and individual urban context of the author. The article also provides an overview of onomatopea and toponyms –linguistic units and significant elements of the urban context, because by using them the author not only creates the linguistic and cultural image of London, but also portrays this city as a prism through which the characters perceive reality and as a translator of the characters' inner feelings and experiences.

A distinctive feature of linguistics of the 21st century is that language and culture are no longer observed separately and have
merged into such a phenomenon as linguoculture. Due to the fact that English occupies a leading position as the language of world communication and is often used as an application to different cultures, the English-language description of foreign or external cultures is becoming more topical and important. The main aim of this article is to describe stylistic functions of such culturally marked vocabulary as xenonyms presented in the postmodern biofictional novel "The Noise of Time" by Julian Patrick Barnes. The article provides an overview of the stylistic functions of xenonyms in general, and it also gives examples of the use of some other culturally marked lexical units, such as toponyms, polyonyms, urbanonyms, lexical and semantic calques, presented in the biofictional novel "The Noise of Time" and use by the author in order to enrich the narration. Due to the use of various linguistic, cultural and stylistic means in his biofictional narrative, the English-speaking author managed to represent the environment surrounding his characters when representing real setting in the fictional world of a literary text.

The article solves the problem of identifying markers of positive or negative sentiment in the network discourse that is formed in social networks in relation to a particular politician. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the study were the basics of network linguistics, the network approach, Big Data. To conduct an empirical study using the method of continuous sampling for the keyword "Boris Johnson", data from the social network Twitter was uploaded from May 15 to July 15, 2021 through the Twitter API service. The received dataset amounted to 1 million 900 thousand messages which were divided into a dataset of messages with a positive sentiment and a dataset of messages with a negative sentiment. In each dataset, frequently used fragments are identified and subjected to linguistic discursive analysis. As a result of their analysis, markers of the positive and negative sentiment of the online discourse that is emerging in the Internet space in relation to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson have been identified. They reflect public opinion, the level of trust in a politician, the pole of evaluation of his activities. Considering such markers when developing strategies for working with public opinion will allow changes in the image and reputational potential of public figures and organizations both online and offline.
