AbstractThis research evaluates the effect of dietary zinc oxide nanoparticles' (ZnO NPs) supplementation on growth performance, immunity, oxidative antioxidative properties, and histopathological picture of broiler chicken reared in the summer season. A total of 224 1-day-old male Cobb chicks were randomly allocated to seven groups of dietary treatments (n = 32). Seven isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets were formulated. ZnO NPs were added to the basal diet at seven different levels, 0, 5, 10, 20, 40, 60, and 80 ppm/kg diet, respectively, for 35 days. Results indicated that live body weight (g) did not differ significantly (P > 0.05) between treatment groups, whereas compared to control, the 5 ppm ZnO NPs/kg diet recorded the highest live body weight at 21 and 35 days. No significant effects for the feed consumption (g/bird/period) and feed conversion ratio (g feed/g gain) among treated and control birds were observed. Hematological and immunological variables showed significant (P ≤ 0.05) dose-dependent modulations by ZnO NP supplementation. Significant (P ≤ 0.05) differences were observed in the phagocytic activity, phagocytic index, and IgM and IgG between the treatment groups, with the 5 and 10 ppm ZnO NPs/kg diet recording the best values, followed by the 20 ppm ZnO NPs/kg diet. Different supplementations had nonsignificant effects on the digestibility of nutrients (P ≤ 0.05). Histopathological pictures of the kidney, liver, and lymphoid organs, ultrastructural examination of muscle tissues, and expression of inflammatory cytokines showed dose-dependent morphological and structural changes. In conclusion, the ZnO NP supplementation in broiler diet to eliminate the heat stress hazards in summer season is recommended in dose level of not more than 10 ppm/kg diet.
Poultry farming is a significant source of revenue generation for small farmers in developing countries. It plays a vital role in fulfilling the daily protein requirements of humans through meat and eggs consumption. The recently emerged pandemic Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) impacts the poultry production sector. Although the whole world is affected, these impacts may be more severe in developing countries due to their dependency on exporting necessary supplies such as feed, vaccines, drugs, and utensils. In this review, we have discussed poultry production in developing countries under the COVID-19 crisis and measures to regain the loss in the poultry industries. Generally, due to the lockdown, trade limitations have negatively impacted poultry industries, which might exacerbate global poverty. Coordinated activities have to be taken at the private and government levels to arrange soft loans so that these farms can restore their production and marketing to normal levels. In addition, here, we have focused on the supply of farm input, feed, other raw materials, management system, improved breeding efficiency, veterinary services, and marketing of egg and meat, which have to be ensured to secure a sustainable poultry production chain.

SIMPLE SUMMARY: Globally, poultry production provides high-quality, affordable animal protein, a high chance for investment, job opportunities, and a source of income for smallholders worldwide. However, the recent COVID-19 affected the sustainability of various animal production sectors worldwide, and these influences are more severe in developing countries. The unprecedented negative influences are attributed to the lockdown, movement restriction, and close of some markets. The present review focuses on the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on poultry production in developing countries in terms of causes and possible solutions to decrease and improve profits. Work must be coordinated between the public and private sectors to facilitate the restoration of the poultry industry to its economic and social position to remedy these problems. AbstractAlthough chickens are not susceptible to SARS-CoV-2, several coronavirus disease outbreaks have been described concerning poultry processing facilities in different countries. The COVID-19 pandemic and the developed strain caused 2nd, 3rd, and recent Indian strain waves of epidemics that have led to unexpected consequences, such as forced reductions in demands for some industries, transportation systems, employment, and businesses due to public confinement. Besides, poultry processing plants' conditions exacerbate the risks due to the proximity on the line, cold, and humidity. Most workers do not have access to paid sick time or adequate health care, and because of the low wages, they have limited reserves to enable them to leave steady employment. In addition, workers in meat and poultry slaughterhouses may be infected through respiratory droplets in the air and/or from touching dirty surfaces or objects such as workstations, break room tables, or tools. Egg prices have increased dramatically during the lockdown as consumers have started to change their behaviors and habits. The COVID pandemic might also substantially impact the international poultry trade over the next several months. This review will focus on the effect of COVID-19 on poultry production, environmental sustainability, and earth systems from different process points of view.

AbstractIvermectin is the medication of choice for treating human onchocerciasis and is used in veterinary medicine to treat a variety of ectoparasites and endoparasites. This study was designed to investigate the effects of zinc nanoparticles (ZnNPs) on the fertility of male rabbits exposed to experimental ivermectin (IVM) intoxication. A total of 72 mature male rabbits were equally divided into 4 groups (n = 18). The first group (CTR) served as control; the second group (IVM) received subcutaneous injection of IVM (0.2 mg/kg body weight); the third group (ZnNPs) fed on zinc nanoparticles (60 mg/kg diet); and the fourth group (ZnNPs + IVM) were administered IVM and zinc nanoparticles at the same doses. The experiment lasted for 9 weeks. Results revealed that IVM-intoxicated rabbits showed impaired growth performance parameters, including body weight, total body weight gain (TBWG), total feed intake (TFI), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Moreover, carcass characteristic and fertility parameters (including semen quality parameters and testosterone levels) were also impaired after IVM administration. Additionally, testicular malondialdehyde (MDA) and antioxidant (reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase) levels as well as the histopathology and immunohistochemical expression of caspase 3 and PCNA in the testes and epididymis were detrimentally affected. On the contrary, ZnNP administration efficiently improved most of these parameters in IVM-intoxicated rabbits. In conclusion, ZnNPs exhibited promising ability for improving the growth and fertility status of rabbits and reducing the deleterious effects of IVM possibly through the suppression of apoptotic and oxidative pathways.Graphical Abstract

Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the potential therapeutic efficacy of vitamin D (Vit D) in averting the harmful effects of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). Forty male Wistar rats were allotted into four groups: (1) the control, (2) Vit D, (3) streptozotocin (STZ), and (4) STZ + Vit D groups. Rats co-treated with Vit D had significantly (p < 0.05) decreased levels of cortisol; proinflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-6 (IL-6); and malondialdehyde (MDA). Meanwhile, the levels of insulin significantly (p < 0.05) increased, whereas the activity of the antioxidant system, including glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), significantly (p < 0.05) decreased. Histopathological examination revealed the destruction of beta cells in the islets of Langerhans in rats with diabetes. Meanwhile, immunoexpression revealed an increase in the immunoreactivity of caspase-3 and endothelial nitric oxide synthase and a reduction in the immunoreactivity of insulin in rats with diabetes. In conclusion, Vit D ameliorated the harmful biochemical impact of diabetes mellitus, probably by increasing insulin secretion and sensitivity, ameliorating β-cell function, and decreasing cortisol levels; also, the anti-inflammatory effect of Vit D reduces the number of proinflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-6) and increases the activity of the antioxidant system, such as GSH, SOD, TAC, and catalase while reducing lipid peroxidation enzymes (e.g., MDA).
