AbstractThis study provides comprehensive evidence on the link between boardroom diversity and reduction of carbon emissions. Analyzing data from a sample of 344 UK-listed non-financial and unregulated firms over the period from 2005 to 2021, our findings indicate that task-oriented (i.e., tenure) and structural (i.e., insider/outsider) board diversity are important for reducing corporate carbon emissions while relational diversity does not appear to be useful. Furthermore, the study explores the role of external carbon governance, such as the Paris Agreement, on firms with weaker internal governance structures. The findings reveal that external governance plays a critical role in curbing emissions when internal governance is not effective. Overall, our research offers valuable insights for management and regulatory bodies on the interplay between various governance mechanisms internal and external to a firm. This knowledge could guide them in determining the right mix and degree of diversity in the boardroom to achieve environmental goals.

Unfair treatment based on sex is considered gender discrimination. Gender discrimination in the workplace has always existed, and the pay gap is a prominent topic worldwide. This paper investigates and provides information on the condition of the pay gap in private schools in Kathmandu valley. Four private schools in Bansbari, Kathmandu, were selected for the research. Out of 139 teachers at the selected schools, 28 female and 20 male teachers were selected for this research using the snowball sampling method. A questionnaire was administered to gather information. The open code analysis of the open-ended questionnaire showed that there was inequality in salary distribution. Remuneration differed not only by employees' working hours and qualifications but also by gender. This paper discusses how gender biases are prevalent in academia.

AbstractThis study investigates the relationship between board gender diversity and sustainability performance using a sample of 205 Nordic‐listed firms across countries Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden over the period 2002–2020. Drawing on gender social role theory and upper echelons theory, our results show a positive and significant association between board gender diversity and sustainability performance. Furthermore, the study extends the finding indicating that a "critical mass" of at least 30% of women on boards is required to have a significant effect on sustainability performance. The study also reveals that the association between board gender diversity and sustainability performance is more pronounced in the carbon‐intensive industry subsample. Therefore, our study, amidst inconsistent board gender diversity and firm performance studies, suggests increasing the "critical mass" of women on boards to have a positive effect on sustainability performance.
