The paper discusses the role of emotional intelligence (EI) in the performance and psychological well-being of a person and presents an analysis of international and Russian research on this topic. The results of the Emotional Intelligence Test (EIT), a psychometric method for measuring EI, created by the authors on the basis of the model of EI as an ability of John D. Mayer, Peter Salovey, David R. Caruso and the psycho-evolutionary theory of emotions of Robert Plutchik, are presented. The method was created by analogy with MSCEIT (The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test). A total of 1007 people aged 20 to 72 years (487 men and 520 women, average age 35.9) took part in psychometric testing of EIT. The EIT method has demonstrated satisfactory psychometric indicators of reliability and validity.

This paper is devoted to the creation, standardisation and application of the tool for measuring the level of emotional intelligence (EI), developed and based on the model of EI as an ability of Peter Salovey, John D. Mayer, David R. Caruso and the psychoevolutionary theory of emotions by Robert Plutchik. For psychometric testing, the data of 3 342 respondents aged 18 to 72 were used (1 172 men and 2 170 women, average age 37.4 years). Factor analysis, both exploratory and confirmatory, showed that the theoretical structure of the EIT method distinguishes 4 EI abilities, thus corresponding to the theoretical model upon which this test was developed. At the same time, the experiential EI domain is better described by factor models when compared to the strategic domain. Age and gender specificity was studied – there was a tendency for the overall level of EI development to increase with age, including the ability to use emotions in solving problems, as well as significant sex differences in the overall level and abilities of EI, which were higher in females. According to the research results, the EIT test of emotional intelligence demonstrated the fundamental psychometric indicators satisfactorily.

The article is aimed at examining the role of emotional intelligence (EI) in the co-operative behaviour of a person, analysing and presenting foreign and Russian research in this area. The results of empirical research are given. The sample consisted of 243 people aged 18 to 67 years (61 men and 182 women, the average age – 36.1 years), of which 107 participants noted that they are middle and senior managers, 136 respondents are employees. The study used the EIT methodology («Emotional Intelligence Test») and the questionnaire CISS (Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations). Correlation analysis revealed the following correlations: positive – between the common EI, domains and branches of EI and problem-oriented copying, and negative – between the experienced domain and common EI with emotionally oriented coping. According to regression analysis, the cumulative effect of the four branches of EI is more pronounced when problem-oriented coping is chosen, and the ability to understand and analyse emotions makes the greatest contribution. The management team has demonstrated the ability to influence the emotions of others and to resort more often to problem-based coping, while the non-management team better recognises emotions in the surrounding space.
