The wellness process encompasses the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of person-in-environment functioning. The authors offer a definition of wellness and describe a practice perspective centered on wellness theory. Wellness theory is discussed and evaluated according to the Practitioner's Evaluative Framework proposed by Dixon and colleagues. Practice interventions are discussed in relation to working with people who have long-term disabilities or chronic medical problems. Implications for social work education and future research are presented.

Ways to deal with each problem area are discussed.

Baccalaureate social work personnel in the United States have gone through a significant transformation during the past decade. Always a significant part of the social work labour force, they are now being prepared to assume a profes sional role. The two studies discussed in this paper highlight some of the current trends in Batchelor of Social Work programmes which have been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1974. As this transition continues into the 1980's, the Baccalaureate practitioner will play an increasingly important role in the delivery of social services in the U.S.

Military personnel often suffer unique adjustment difficulties on retirement, a period of stress that has been scarcely dealt with in the literature. The medical and social problems caused by these stresses indicate that more attention needs to be given to this time of emotional upheaval encountered by many military retirees.
