AbstractThe disclosure of 227 7th‐ through 12th‐grade adolescents to four other persons – their closest same‐ and cross‐sex best friends, and lesser‐but‐good same‐ and cross‐sex friends – about 40 topics varying widely in intimacy was examined; in addition, each subject rated every topic's intimacy. A (2) gender × (2) friend's gender × (2) closeness × (3) age × (3) intimacy level ANOVA yielded two large main effects (partial ω2 > .15), closeness and topic intimacy. Three large interaction effects – gender by friend's gender, friend's gender by intimacy, and gender by closeness by intimacy – were also found, as was a moderate‐sized closeness by gender by friend's gender interaction (partial co2= .08). A number of other effects were statistically significant but of only small magnitude. The perceived intimacy of 6 of the studied topics varied across age groups, and one topic, "your weight" was rated differently by males and females. The data are discussed in relation to previous research on adolescent gender differences in friendship and disclosure.

In the year 2000, the Government Advisory Committee ("GAC") of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ("ICANN") passed a set of principles that essentially claimed national sovereignty over country code top-level domains ("ccTLD"s) such as .us, .ca, .uk and .au. Shortly thereafter, ICANN redelegated several ccTLDs in accordance with new GAC principles. Despite the outcry accompanying the passage of these principles and ICANN's self-professed adherence thereto, the entire exercise could easily be criticized as merely symbolic because of the overriding power of ICANN in the operation of the Domain Name System ("DNS"). Indeed, Stuart Lynn, ICANN's current president, summed up the lack of power that ccTLDs have within the governance structure of the Internet when he opined that "ICANN could, in theory, recommend that a particular ccTLD be redelegated to a cooperating administrator. If the United States government accepted that recommendation, non-cooperating ccTLD administrators would be replaced."

California has proposed limiting agricultural pesticide use within 0.4 km of schools and childcare facilities. However, the 0.4-km buffer may not be appropriate for all pesticides because of differing toxicities, fate, and application methods. Living near pesticide use has been associated with poorer birth outcomes, neurodevelopment, and respiratory function in children. More research about exposures in schools, childcare facilities, and homes is needed. Despite incomplete science, this regulation is an important step to reduce potential exposures to children. The most vulnerable exposure period may be in utero, and future regulations should also aim to reduce exposures to pregnant women.

OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: To introduce CCTS to the clinical and translational research community. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Established in the summer of 2017, the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) fosters cooperative clinical and translational sciences between the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). CCTS facilitates the translation of basic research discoveries into clinically validated therapies to improve the health of populations in Mississippi and beyond. Priority areas of investigation in CCTS include Cardiometabolic disorders, Cancer, Neuroscience, Infectious diseases, Precision Medicine, and Community-Based Research. To accomplish CCTS mission three overarching goals have been defined: I) Develop progressive and sustainable capacity for clinical and translational research in Mississippi; II) Promote interprofessional engagement in clinical and translational science; and III) Foster research collaboration among stakeholders in and outside of Mississippi. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: To carry its CCTS's mission three research units have been established: 1) The Pre-clinical Research Unit: Develops processes to move basic science discoveries towards translation into research in humans. This unit provides guidance in the development of Investigational New Drug (IND) applications; and identifies and pursues opportunities to develop progressive capacities for in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo, and in silico approaches for evaluating new pharmaceutical and therapeutic agents. 2) The Clinical Research Unit: Transitions projects that have received IND approval into the first phase of clinical trials. It also transitions clinical trials from Phase I to Phase II and to Phase III; develops standard operating procedures (SOPs), personnel training plans, and policies to guide clinical research; works with industry sponsors and governmental funding agencies; and assures compliance with regulatory requirements. 3) Community/population ...
