Digital technologies have affected significantly many fields of computer graphics such as Games and especially the field of the Serious Games. These games are usually used for educational proposes in many fields such as Health Care, Military applications, Education, Government etc. Especially Digital Cultural Heritage is a scientific area that Serious Games are applied and lately many applications appear in the related literature. Realistic 3D textured models which have been produced using different photogrammetric methods could be a useful tool for the creation of Serious Game applications in order to make the final result more realistic and close to the reality. The basic goal of this paper is how 3D textured models which are produced by photogrammetric methods can be useful for developing a more realistic environment of a Serious Game. The application of this project aims at the creation of an educational game for the Ancient Agora of Athens. The 3D models used vary not only as far as their production methods (i.e. Time of Flight laser scanner, Structure from Motion, Virtual historical reconstruction etc.) is concerned, but also as far as their era as some of them illustrated according to their existing situation and some others according to how these monuments looked like in the past. The Unity 3D ® game developing environment was used for creating this application, in which all these models were inserted in the same file format. For the application two diachronic virtual tours of the Athenian Agora were produced. The first one illustrates the Agora as it is today and the second one at the 2nd century A.D. Finally the future perspective for the evolution of this game is presented which includes the addition of some questions that the user will be able to answer. Finally an evaluation is scheduled to be performed at the end of the project.

article ; Palestine, being a developing country, faces lots of obstacles and deficiencies in the existing solid waste management (SWM) field. In wake of these circumstances, it seems hard for the public sector to run sustainable SWM systems. The overall objective of the research presented in this paper was to study the current status of the SWM field in the West Bank of Palestine under the perspective of potential private sector involvement. For this purpose, twelve Joint Service Councils (JSCs) for solid waste management were investigated. Out of them, only two are currently having a Public– Private Partnership (PPP) contract for the management and operation of the transfer station and the sanitary landfill. On the other hand, two JSCs are currently making arrangements and implementing studies for future PPPs on waste-to-energy, biowaste management and recycling projects. Jenin and Tubas Joint Service Council (JSC) had 3-month-duration PPP contract for the implementation of a recycling project, which is a worst case scenario as it failed to meet its objectives. The parameters that could encourage JSCs or ease the implementation of PPP in localSWMfield are analysed. Overall conclusion is that sustainability can be accelerated once the government—represented by the Ministry of Local Government (MoLG)—is involved; providing legal support to local authorities and incentives to potential contractors in order to encourage them to join PPPs. Parameters that are believed to facilitate PPPs include the following: development or updating existing laws and regulations, facilitation of licensing procedures, and activation of the Investment Promotion Law. Feasibility and market analysis study implementation will indicate the appropriate actions required locally to achieve environmental and financial sustainability in all contracted PPPs.

A variety of chemicals is included in the household hazardous waste and the dental waste fractions that are sadly both parts of municipal solid waste in Greece. These chemical compounds have hazardous properties according to international and European regulations. In Greece, the categorization of household hazardous waste is not indicated by any legislation, whereas for dental waste the legislation is existent since May 2012, but the development of a management plan undertaken by the Hellenic Dental Association is not yet active. Given that both waste fractions are managed with other municipal solid wastes, they are spotted in solid waste management facilities causing multiple impacts and challenging the labors' health and safety status. Desk research involving literature and commercial research was conducted in order for the hazardous substances of each of the aforementioned waste stream to be pinpointed; collected data were compiled into databases for those two specific waste streams and were categorized based on their hazardous properties and the waste facility they are most likely to be found in. Parallel field researches were conducted to: (i) determine the uncertainty level of the fractions, composition, and health/environmental impacts, and (ii) specific parameters were introduced to determine their impact due to the status of health and safety conditions within the management facilities in Greece. Despite the fact that HHW is almost 10% of the total MSW, it was found that 4.00% of their compounds involve a toxic risk and 7.16% of them involve combination risks for humans working in treatment facilities; ten chemical compounds, which are included in this fraction, are categorized as R39/23/24/25 (toxic). On the other hand, in DW, 8.82% of the included chemical compounds involve a toxic risk and 11.76% of them involve combination risks for humans. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of those waste fractions presented in this paper will pave the way toward organization of both waste streams' management plan followed by compiled strategies and recommendations to divert them from the municipal waste stream and lead them to safe and sustainable management paths.

Hebron is an industrial governorate south of Palestine where the lack of studies ends up to inexistent evaluation of its environmental status. Understanding the status of industrial solid waste management (SWM) largely contributes to the determination of the opportunities and the appropriate roadmap for the application of cleaner production principles.In this chapter, we report the results of an extended research-constructed survey conducted in Hebron both at municipal level and industrial level. Primarily the municipal level research was aimed at identifying the current SWM practices. Then the industrial level research was aimed to collect data on both the applied SWM practices in local industries and record the generated quantities of ISW. Towards the development, updating and implementation of a legislative framework, which will support an integrated SWM in the local industrial area, the stakeholders are highly encouraged to develop an incentive system for industries to reduce and recycle the generated ISW. This need clearly emerges from the current research results: Only 21 out of 91 factories treat SW before final disposal; 83.33% of them recycle the waste in situ or in collaboration with local recycling stakeholders; 51.65% of the investigated industries produce a mixture of process and nonprocess ISW, the average rate of nonprocess ISW is 23.22 kg/ day; 8.4% of factories always separate process ISW from nonprocess ISW; 85.7% of factories do not separate their ISW into specific components. Only 13.6% of factories reuse and 16.5% recycle ISW; 77.3% of the recyclable materials are used as secondary raw materials, and 22.7% of them use the separated ISW as secondary raw materials in production, both implementing the fundamental 3Rs principle.

This paper explores Climate Protection at a local level. Initially it was essential to define and understand the "Greenhouse Effect" before evaluating local authorities' potential to counteract it. We examined strategies dealing with the problem of climate change and particular emphasis was placed on the potential for local authorities to exert an influence. We examined the frameworks, policies, challenges, problems and best practices for climate protection at a local level. Our research examined ten municipalities on the island of Rhodes in Greece and assessed their current contribution to climate protection. Results showed that all ten municipalities implement a range of measures to protect the climate and reduce CO2 emissions

Los romanies son uno de los grupos más marginados y socialmente excluidos de Grecia. La discriminación, las barreras y la exclusión social se deben principalmente a las opiniones estereotipadas y los prejuicios que se han configurado para ellos a lo largo de los años. El objetivo de esta investigación fue investigar las actitudes y los prejuicios hacia los romanies según los puntos de vista de los profesionales del bienestar, la salud y la educación. La encuesta se realizó con metodología cualitativa y, en particular, con entrevistas semiestructuradas. El grupo de entrevistados incluyó a treinta profesionales de bienestar social, salud y educación que trabajan en diferentes servicios en la ciudad de Atenas. Las investigaciones han demostrado que los profesionales del bienestar, la salud y la educación, bajo la influencia de actitudes sociales soberanas, pueden correr el riesgo de ser las mismas ideas preconcebidas y negativas hacia los romanies que la población general. Los resultados de la encuesta respaldan la necesidad de desarrollar intervenciones apropiadas para reducir la sensación de amenaza y cambio de las actitudes negativas de los profesionales de servicios hacia los romanies, centrándose en las intervenciones de enfoque multicultural, crítico y antirrepresivo y la adopción de políticas multiculturales, aceptación de la diversidad y combate discriminación.The Roma are one of the most marginalised and socially excluded groups in Greece. They face discrimination, barriers and social exclusion mainly as a result of anti-Roma stereotypes and prejudices formed throughout the centuries. The purpose of this research was to investigate attitudes and prejudices towards the Roma according to the views of education, health and social welfare professionals. The research used qualitative methods and in particular a semi-structured interview. The group of interviewees included twenty three professionals working in various settings in the city of Athens. The research showed that welfare, health and education professionals, under the influence of dominant social attitudes, are likely to become vehicles of the same anti-Roma prejudices and negative attitudes held by the general population. The research results highlight the need to develop appropriate intervention measures designed to reduce the feeling of threat and change the negative anti-Roma attitudes of these professionals, by focusing on multicultural, critical and anti-oppressive approaches and adopting multicultural policies aimed at accepting diversity and fighting discrimination.
