International audience ; Referring to my own field practices in a situation of social tension and civil war in Congo-Brazzaville entails a genuine critical examination of a society which is at the same time a social world made up of a plurality of social microcosms and the field of my experiences of life, action and thinking. I was tempted – as if this could be taken for granted – to adopt the participative observation method through immersion in the social world in which one is both subject and object. I was aware of the double epistemological and social constraint in the reflective and critical approach of a socio-anthropologist according to which the field of participative objectivation is also that of social experimentation. In the first phase, research and fieldwork were carried out from 1990 to 1994 on « religious and non-religious mutual social support in the urban society of Brazzaville (Congo) ». In the second phase, research was done between 1995 and 1998 on the Matsouanist movement in the paradoxical context of both the process of democratization and civil wars in partnership within an ORSTOM and CNRS research group on the theme « City-dwellers and religions in Brazzaville ». This scientific construction with respect to historical time and research under tension in a field full of pitfalls enabled me to understand what working means on the present and the day-to-day in the timeframes of war, and, on the other hand to see how individual and collective identities are constructed through different processes of breakdown and recomposition of urban situations. ; Evocar las prácticas de terreno en contextos de situación social y de guerra civil supone un verdadero esfuerzo crítico con respecto al presente de una sociedad que es el mundo de lo social que contiene múltiples microcosmos sociales y también con respecto al ámbito de mis experiencias, de mis acciones y de mis reflexiones. He intentado, lo cual no es evidente, utilizar el método llamado de « observación participante » que implica una inmersión en el universo social en el que uno es sujeto y objeto. Era consciente de esta doble dificultad epistemológica y social en el encaminamiento reflexivo y crítico de socio-antropólogo según el cual el terreno de objetivación en el que uno interviene es igualmente terreno de experimentación social. En una primera etapa, las investigaciones y encuestas de terreno han sido llevadas, de 1990 a 1994, sobre los movimientos asociativos religiosos y laicos de ayuda social en la población urbana de Brazzaville. En la segunda etapa, de 1995 a 1998, las investigaciones han sido efectuadas sobre el movimiento marsouanista dentro del contexto paradójico del proceso de democratización y de guerras civiles, en colaboración con un grupo de l'ORSTOM y del CNRS cuyo tema conjunto de investigación era « Ciudadanos y religiones en Brazzaville ». Esta construcción científica de la relación al tiempo histórico y la investigación en condiciones difíciles en territorio « minado », me han permitido por una parte, de comprender lo que significa investigar sobre lo presente y lo cotidiano en situaciones conflictivas con temporalidades de guerra y por otra parte de ver igualmente como se han construido identidades individuales y colectivas a través de diferentes procesos de descomposición y de recomposición de situaciones urbanas. ; Évoquer mes pratiques de terrain en situation de tensions sociales et de guerre civile au Congo-Brazzaville suppose un véritable travail critique sur le présent d'une société qui est à la fois ce monde social renfermant une pluralité des microcosmes sociaux et le champ de mes expériences de vie, d'action et de réflexion. J'ai été tenté – comme si cela allait de soi – de recourir à la méthode d'observation participante par immersion dans l'univers social où l'on est à la fois sujet et objet. J'avais conscience de cette double contrainte épistémologique et sociale dans la démarche réflexive et critique de socio-anthropologue selon laquelle le terrain d'objectivation participante est également celui de l'expérimentation sociale. Dans un premier temps, les recherches et enquêtes de terrain ont été menées, de 1990 à 1994, sur les « mouvements associatifs religieux et laïcs d'entraide sociale dans la société urbaine brazzavilloise (Congo) ». Dans un second temps, de 1995 à 1998, les recherches ont été effectuées sur le mouvement matsouaniste dans le contexte paradoxal, du processus de démocratisation et de guerres civiles, en partenariat au sein d'une équipe de l'ORSTOM et du CNRS, sur le thème « Citadins et religions à Brazzaville ». Cette construction scientifique du rapport au temps historique et la recherche sous tension en terrain « miné » m'ont permis d'une part, de comprendre ce que travailler veut dire sur le présent et le quotidien dans des temporalités guerrières ; d'autre part, de voir également comment se sont construites les identités individuelles et collectives à travers différents processus de décomposition et de recomposition des situations urbaines.

The development of religious movements of a prophetic character appears to be a response to the crisis and corresponds to new modes of individual sociability. The attitude of the central authority in the face of these movements is uncertain. At Independence the emerging state depended on these movements with nationalist demands. Today, the state hesitates between proscription for ideological reasons and compromise due to the generalised ressort of the population to these movements.

L'auteur examine les figures du politique et du religieux de la modernité en Afrique. Les questions centrales abordées sont: Sous quelle forme de rationalité scientifique et sous quelles exigences pratiques, la réflexion sur les productions politiques et religieuses de la modernité en Afrique peut intégrer tout à la fois, le contenu empirique des sciences humaines et sociales et le contenu normatif des théories sur l'individu et la société ? L'auteur cherche à souligner l'intérêt scientifique des questions soulevées, à la fois dans leur universalité et dans leur particularité et prend pour cela en considération, les productions des rationalités contextualisées dans l'affirmation de l'universalité de la raison constituante propre à l'humain pour légitimer à travers ces deux figures de la modernité, le procès d'émancipation du sujet.
