Рецензия раскрывает концептуальную и содержательную сторону сборника статей западных специалистов, сосредоточившихся на изучении творчества позднеантичного интеллектуала — неоплатоника Порфирия. Особое внимание специалистов привлекает трактат Порфирия «Contra Christianos» и культурная среда, связанная с этим сочинением. Указана актуальность избранной исследователями тематики в рамках проблемы так называемой «христианской угрозы», поднятой Порфирием и другими сторонниками подобного концепта. Подчеркнута спорность решения вопросов, касающихся взаимоотношений разных текстов Порфирия и текстов его современников, посвященных подобной проблеме. Особое внимание в рецензии обращено на те статьи, которые по-новому раскрывают религиозно-политические аспекты функционирования позднеантичного общества как относительно открытой социальной системы, прагматично использовавшей для своей стабилизации инструментарий вертикальной антихристианской полемики. ; Review of: Männlein-Robert, I. This review describes the conceptual and content side of the collection of articles by Western experts, focusing on the study of the work of Porphyry, a Neoplatonic intellectual from Late Antiquity. The researchers mostly focus on Porphyry's treatise Contra Christianos and the cultural environment associated with this work. The reviewer emphasises the relevance of topics chosen by the researchers in the framework of the problem of the so-called "Christian threat" raised by Porphyry and other supporters of the concept. Also, the reviewer points out the controversy of solving issues concerning the relationship between different texts of Porphyry and texts of his contemporaries related to such a problem. Particular attention is paid to the review of the articles that reveal new religious and political aspects behind the functioning of the society of Late Antiquity as a relatively open social system, which pragmatically used the tools of vertical anti-Christian controversy to stabilise itself.

Рецензия раскрывает концептуальную и содержательную сторону сборника трудов немецких специалистов, анализирующих особенности и сущностные характеристики нарастания различий между европейским Западом и Восточным Средиземноморьем в эпоху раннего Средневековья. Указана актуальность избираемой исследователями тематики в рамках заявленной проблемы, плюрализм в методиках подхода к сложному материалу и корректность в подборе исторических фактов, необходимых для понимания перехода от поздней Античности к медиевальным реалиям. Подчеркнута спорность решения вопросов, касающихся презентации исследователями узловых проблем истории раннесредневековой Европы, особенно в сочетании с попытками выйти на эти проблемы через довольно узкие сюжеты. Особое внимание обращено на те тезисы сборника, которые по-новому пытаются раскрыть природу и содержание нарастания непонимания друг друга политическими и социальными группами государств Запада и Востока Европы 400–800 гг. This review reveals the conceptual and content side of a collection of works by German specialists, analysing the features and essential characteristics of the growing differences between the European West and the Eastern Mediterranean in the early Middle Ages. The reviewer emphasises the relevance of the subject chosen by the researchers within the framework of the stated problem, pluralism of methods they employ when approaching the complex material and the accuracy in the selection of historical facts necessary for understanding the transition from late Antiquity to medieval realities. Also, the reviewer points out the controversy of solving issues related to the way the researchers present the key issues of the history of early medieval Europe, especially as combined with their attempts to reach these issues through rather narrow subjects. Special attention is paid to the theses of the collection which make a new attempt at revealing the nature and content of the growing misunderstanding between the political and social groups of Western and Eastern Europe in 400–800 AD. The paper demonstrates a certain inconsistency of a number of authors of the book in their attempt to avoid projection of sociopolitical and religious and cultural differences between the West and the East of late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages on apparently similar discrepancies in the development of the studied regions in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

This review reveals the meaning, content, and main advantages and disadvantages of a unique bibliographic compendium presenting scholarly materials concerning the Res Gestae (Acts), i.e. works of Ammianus Marcellinus, the greatest historian of late Antiquity. The article demonstrates that the structure of the bibliography, segmented chronologically within the framework of 1474–2016, allows a specialist not only to obtain information about the Res Gestae and their epoch needed for research, but also demonstrates several features of the development of research based on this historical source for the first time in historiography. Based on the bibliography created by F. Jenkins, it is possible to identify a special increase in the interest of historians and philologists in Ammianus' work, to the works of his contemporaries and epigones, which, in turn, makes it possible to see new sides in the development of historiography of sociocultural processes of the fourth and fifth centuries. The author's scrupulousness as a bibliographer is noteworthy, and so it is as an expert on the main historiographical trends for several centuries when the work of Ammianus was published and studied.

The article deals with the problems of relations between the Russian government and the Armenian Apostolic Church at the end of the XIX-beginning of the XX centuries. The adoption of the law of June 12, 1903 by Prince G. S. Golitsyn on the seizure of church property of the AAC. The negative consequences of this law on the affairs of the Armenian church in the city of Nakhichevan-on-Don, followed by problems in parochial schools are traced.
