Fallbeispiele sind ein gängiges Stilmittel journalistischer Beiträge. Das Lehrbuch, das nunmehr in 2. Auflage vorliegt, bietet einen Überblick über die Forschung zur Wirkung solcher Fallbeispiele auf die Realitätsvorstellungen und Einstellungen des Publikums. Insbesondere befasst sich die Forschungsrichtung mit dem stärkeren Effekt von Fallbeispielen gegenüber weniger einzelfallbezogenen, stärker überblicksartigen (z.B. statischen) Beschreibungen der Realität. Theoretische Erklärungen für Effekte werden diskutiert, die typische Methodik von Wirkungsstudien zu Fallbeispielen erläutert und die Ergebnisse der Forschungsrichtung systematisiert. Außerdem wird die Bedeutung von Fallbeispielen und ihrer Wirkung für die journalistische Praxis und für eine kompetente Medienrezeption bewertet.

Aus der Analyse des sozialen Kontextes von sinnlichen Wahrnehmungen im Alltag erwachsen soziologische Thesen und Aphorismen, Gedankenexperimente und knappe gesellschaftliche Alternativentwürfe.Die »Synästhetische Soziologie« soll eine Sozialwissenschaft mit allen Sinnen bieten und eine essayistisch-programmatische Einführung ins soziologische Denken geben. Dabei werden Fragen aufgeworfen wie, welche Farbe haben eigentlich Zahlen, wie riecht es im Bio-Discounter oder muss man einen Rotbusch-Tee mit Pflaumenaroma unbedingt am Abend trinken.

Warum nutzen wir die Medien so, wie wir es tun? Die hier vorgeschlagene Theorie der Mediensozialisation beschreibt, wie die gesellschaftliche Position und der Lebensverlauf einer Person dazu führen, dass sie kognitive, emotionale, wertungs- und verhaltensbezogene Dispositionen erwirbt, die dann die Mediennutzung strukturieren. Eine quantitative empirische Studie führt dann medienbezogene Haltungen von Befragten auf die Eigenschaften von Sozialisationsinstanzen wie Familie, Schule und Arbeit sowie auf typische Lebensverlaufsmuster zurück.

A certain anti-science sentiment seems to coincide with the rise of certain (seemingly) populist forces. An apparent affinity between anti-science attitudes (or ideologies) and populism has not escaped social scientists' attention. To get at the core of the problem, Niels Mede and Mike Schäfer (2020) have recently proposed the concept of science-related populism (SRP). The present short essay seeks to add nuance to the idea that there is such a thing as science-related or anti-science populism. It argues that there are indeed certain forms of populist opposition to science, but that we should not overstretch the concept to include things that are neither really populist (or not populist in the same way) nor related to science in the same way. And we should not overly narrow it down and thus exclude a lot of criticism of science currently associated with populism.

Der Beitrag diskutiert implizit und explizit in der Kommunikationswissenschaft vertretene Gesellschaftsvorstellungen und fragt, was wir meinen, wenn wir von der Integration der Gesellschaft durch Medien sprechen. Vielfach herrscht die Vorstellung einer durch gemeinsame Werte zusammengehaltenen Gesellschaft, wie sie auch in der populären Diskussion um Integration Zugewanderter meist vertreten wird. Eine Integration durch Medien stellt man sich oft so vor, dass sie durch massenmedial verbreitete gemeinsame Themen bewirkt wird oder durch Konformitätsstreben aufgrund medial konstruierter Meinungsklimata. Eine solches auf Gleichsinnigkeit beruhendes "gemeinschaftliches" Gesellschaftsbild liegt trotz aller bedeutsamer Unterschiede auch dem Rechtspopulismus zugrunde. Dieser etwas provokative Vergleich regt zur kritischen Reflexion darüber an, welchen anderen (deskriptiven und normativen) Gesellschaftstheorien man sich vermehrt zuwenden sollte, die eine Vielfalt von Integrationsmechanismen vorsehen und einen Rahmen schaffen, wie mit differenzierten und widerstreitenden Wertvorstellungen umgegangen werden kann. ; This contribution discusses implicit and explicit conceptionalizations of society that are being maintained in communication research and what is meant by the notion of social integration by the media. It is often assumed that society is held together by common values - a conception that is also often evoked in popular discussions on the integration of migrants. Integration by the media is often thought of as effected by common topics or the tendency towards conformity due to medially constructed climates of opinion. Such a "communitarian" view of society rooted in consensuality is - despite important differences - also the basis of right-wing populism. This somewhat provocative comparison might stimulate a criticial reflection which other (descriptive and normative) theories of society one might turn to - theories that imply a variety of mechanisms of integration and provide a framework to deal with differentiated and conflicting values.

Abstract
The framework of the 'social ontology of the internet' is applied to music recommendation platforms.
Those websites provide individual suggestions of music to users, creating new dynamics of taste that
are no longer based on human-to-human interaction and verbalized judgments. An exemplary analysis
of three platforms shows that different conceptions of musical tastes are represented by technical
systems: situational emotional preferences, a formalist aesthetics, and social proximity based on
tastes. The platforms share certain assumptions about the ontology of musical entities and of course
the constitutive act of recommending. We discuss how this act can be ascribed to technical systems.
Theses on the platforms' effects on the social structure of musical tastes are developed.

■ In different countries, radio stations broadcast what is regularly categorized as classical music. The question arises, however, whether the various stations rely on the same concept of the genre and whether they apply the same programming strategies. In an analysis focusing on the composers of the works broadcast, programmes of four radio stations — two in Germany, one in France and one in the US — were compared. The results are interpreted with regard to the concept of a 'canon' of classical composers, changes in 'legitimate culture' and debates on the function and performance of classical music stations. Findings are also compared to the composers' importance in the educational and scientific system. The study shows that the stations essentially rely on an internationally common repertoire of classical composers, but that programming strategies rely on different understandings of legitimate culture and different functions of the canonical works. ■

Social media use is a highly relevant everyday practice with important individual and social consequences. In addition to analyses of such outcomes or of the content recipients are exposed to, how we use social media is an important object of study in itself and an important intervening factor in many processes of communication. Drawing on the theoretical framework of strategies of media use, this study investigates social media use as a strategic practice. Based on qualitative interviews with Instagram users, we identify different elements of strategies and reconstruct their practical sense. For example, social media use can be the simplest way to pass time and can be useful or "inspiring" in different ways. Styles of use can be straightforward or meandering, controlled or automatic. We find distanced or emotionally involved, critical or self-critical attitudes, and the world as represented on Instagram can be experienced as fake, aesthetic, or authentic.

Populism research usually addresses politicians as part of the criticized elite, but neglects the media. This study explores populist attitudes against the media and their relation to political populism. The study validates the proposed antimedia populism scale and shows that antimedia populist attitudes apply to a specific and small group of German society. Confirming a relationship between political populism and antimedia populist attitudes, the results indicate that citizens who have developed a populist worldview tend to evaluate the media in congruence with this overall ideology and include the media in their conception of a detached elite. Moreover, antimedia populist attitudes are more common among individuals with feelings of relative deprivation and those with antipluralist and authoritarian submission attitudes.
