Vorgelegt wird eine Analyse der Stabilisierungspolitik, die die Vermittlung von Verteilungskonflikten durch wirtschaftliche Institutionen und wirtschaftspolitische Instrumente als zentral für den Stabilisierungserfolg ansieht. Der Verfasser zeigt am Beispiel des ehemaligen Jugoslawien, welche Rolle wirtschaftliche Interessenkoalitionen bei der Blockierung von Wirtschaftsreformen und makroökonomischer Stabilisierung spielen. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird nach dem Stabilisierungserfolg in Slowenien, Mazedonien und Kroatien gefragt. Der Verfasser verknüpft in seiner Analyse den Erfolg der Stabilisierungspolitik mit dem Aufbau wirtschaftspolitischer Institutionen und dem Erreichen eines sozialen Konsensus. Er zeigt, daß in den drei genannten Staaten die durch die Unabhängigkeit herbeigeführte politische Öffnung die Umsetzung stabilisierungspolitischer Maßnahmen erleichtert hat. (BIOst-Wpt)
