Analytical electron microscopy (AEM) has been used to study both structure and morphology of partially yttria-stabilized zirconia dioxide nanopowders (YSZ) obtained by wet-chemical methods (glycine and azeotropic distillation) and ceramics produced from them. Both morphological and structural inhomogeneity of nanopowders obtained by glycine (glc) method has been estimated. Besides the tetragonal ZrO2 phase (results of X-ray analyses) the cubic phase of ZrO2 with different degree of crystallinity has been estimated by Electron Microdiffraction (EMD) methods. In powders obtained by azeotropic distillation (dest) method besides the amorphous phase (identified in X-ray investigations) the high disperse cubic zirconia phase has been identified using high local EMD method. It has been detected the yttrium influence on the degree of crystallinity in nanopowders obtained by azeotropic distillation method without yttria (dest-0YSZ) and with 5 wt % Y2O3 (dest-5YSZ). It has been determined the difference in ceramic morphology produced from these powders. Ceramics mode of nanopowders containing yttria (glc-5YSZ and dest-5YSZ) have a homogeneous surface which consists of different size globules (0.1–0.6 μm) and contains some little pores (∼370 nm). Ceramics mode of nanopowders without yttria have inhomogeneous surface with numerous cracks. In this work, we demonstrate for the first time the possibilities of the extraction–pyrolytic method (EPM) for the production of nanocrystalline TiO2 powders. A titanium-containing precursor (extract) was prepared by liquid–liquid extraction using valeric acid C4H9COOH without diluent as an extractant. Simultaneous thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry (TGA–DSC), as well as the Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used to determine the temperature conditions to fabricate TiO2 powders free of organic impurities. The produced materials were also characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed the possibility of the fabrication of storage-stable liquid titanium (IV)-containing precursor, which provided nanocrystalline TiO2 powders. It was established that the EPM permits the production of both monophase (anatase polymorph or rutile polymorph) and biphase (mixed anatase–rutile polymorphs), impurity-free nanocrystalline TiO2 powders. For comparison, TiO2 powders were also produced by the precipitation method. The results presented in this study could serve as a solid basis for further developing the EPM for the cheap and simple production of nanocrystalline TiO2-based materials in the form of doped nanocrystalline powders, thin films, and composite materials. ME/CFS is a chronic, complex, multisystem disease that often limits the health and functioning of the affected patients. Diagnosing patients with ME/CFS is a challenge, and many different case definitions exist and are used in clinical practice and research. Even after diagnosis, medical treatment is very challenging. Symptom relief and coping may affect how patients live with their disease and their quality of life. There is no consensus on which diagnostic criteria should be used and which treatment strategies can be recommended for patients. The purpose of the current project was to map the landscape of the Euromene countries in respect of national guidelines and recommendations for case definition, diagnosis and clinical approaches for ME/CFS patients. A 23 items questionnaire was sent out by email to the members of Euromene. The form contained questions on existing guidelines for case definitions, treatment/management of the disease, tests and questionnaires applied, and the prioritization of information for data sampling in research. We obtained information from 17 countries. Five countries reported having national guidelines for diagnosis, and five countries reported having guidelines for clinical approaches. For diagnostic purposes, the Fukuda criteria were most often recommended, and also the Canadian Consensus criteria, the International Consensus Criteria and the Oxford criteria were used. A mix of diagnostic criteria was applied within those countries having no guidelines. Many different questionnaires and tests were used for symptom registration and diagnostic investigation. For symptom relief, pain and anti-depressive medication were most often recommended. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Graded Exercise treatment were often recommended as disease management and rehabilitative/palliative strategies. The lack of consistency in recommendations across European countries urges the development of regulations, guidance and standards. The results of this study will contribute to the harmonization of diagnostic criteria and treatment for ME/CFS in Europe. ; publishedVersion
