; Even though the influence that Greek culture, and in particular, its philosophy, served on Cicero is well known, it has not been highlighted his insistence on showing the superiority of Rome also in areas such as oratory or political thought. Using as theoretical framework E. Said's Orientalism , we aim to interpret Cicero in postcolonial terms, i.e. as an author who wants to legitimize the rule of Rome, using her cultural superiority as the main argument. ; Instituto de Investigaciones en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales (IdIHCS)

Three are three main ideas discussed in this paper: first, that prouincia Transduriana is a perfectly valid denomination for a Roman province; second, that it was a fully fledged province, not merely a sub-province or a military command post, because, according to Roman Law, delegated jurisdiction cannot be delegated a second time-, and finally, that with restituo the emperor Augustus annulled a previous conviction imposed on the Aliobrigiaecini.

; ABSTRACT: My first intention when the compositive problems of the lex Ursonensis were posed as a subject of study was to look for an order, an internal logic, that would make sense of the succession of chapters in the law. On secod thought, however, I hoped to verify wherther the thematic succession thus determined could have had parallels in literary, legislative or jurisprudential texts, i.e., to fuid out whether there existed a more or less fixed canon that would articulae the contens that came under the tus publicum. As often happens, in the end the results have only partially satisfied my expectations, but the same research, following its own logic, led me to adopt a different course, which took me to very different questions, but which I consider important. Thus I have posed here not only that which refers strictly to the law, but rather all the aspects linked to the process of its composition, to the extent that they can be recostructed form the text itself.

The first comprehensive multi-disciplinary study of Junian LatinitySets a new agenda for the study of Junian Latinity, slavery, manumission and citizenship at Rome Discusses the historical and legal developments of Junian Latinity from Republic to and beyond Late Antiquity Combines authoritative surveys with cutting-edge arguments Brings together leading researchers from history, law and literature This book offers new historical, legal and literary explorations of a status held by uncountable formerly enslaved persons in the Roman Empire: Junian Latinity. It is the first book in any language to provide comprehensive multi-disciplinary study of this status. Divided in two parts, the book sets the scene with six chapters that discuss the legal innovations that created Junian Latinity, as well as the historical contexts in which the status was conceived and in which it developed – from the late republican period to the early medieval world. Four chapters in the second book part offer then new research on key Latin literary texts to provide fresh insights into the role of Junian Latinity in Roman imperial society. The book makes a strong case for the centrality of Junian Latinity in the Roman Empire and the importance of its modern study
