Abstract
The success of radical right-wing populist (RRWP) parties is based on discourses displaying "power geometries"
(Massey 1993, 1999). These involve the
representation of power relations, with on one side a globalized elite, boosting the mobility of human beings, goods and capital
across borders, and on the other side, a territorially embedded people subject to this borderless mobility. Power geometries can
also be used to approach the chameleonic behavior of RRWP politicians and their allies in the political space. The article uses
this concept to interpret the attitude of the Trieste City Executive and the reactions to it when it commemorated a past connected
to Italian fascism. The results show that the power geometries involving the RRWP and their allies in European borderlands can
lead to discursive ambivalence in two overlapping spaces: the territorial and state-bordered space of representative democracy,
and the topological and cross-border space of para-diplomacy.

AbstractRadical‐right populism has become a structural political phenomenon in the European Union in recent years. This ideology, the core principle of which is based on a nurtured antagonism between the 'people' and the 'elite', combined with a parallel promotion of authoritarian and nativist ideas, is generally associated with the nation state and its core territorial ideology: nationalism. However, populism can also be scaled at the regional level, within or across European state borders. This article, which is based on critical discourse analysis, aims to investigate what might constitute the meaning of cross‐national regionalism according to a radical‐right populist leader in Europe. More precisely, my objective is to research the antagonism this type of leader can structure to organize territorial, symbolic and institutional claims associated with a specific cross‐national region. This research is based on the discourse Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán produced in relation to the Visegrád region. My analysis helps to reveal the types of power geometries articulated by populist leaders beyond state borders.

Abstract
Leaders of European right-wing populism (RWP) have developed speeches about the state border control required to
protect the "people" electing them. Nevertheless, are these RWP narratives necessarily circulated during populist media events
that take place in the symbolic locations of European integration? It is argued that border control discourse in these EU places
can be mitigated by RWP actors, but also emphasized by the media depending on the separated predispositions of politicians and
reporters to address the border issue in a given context. Bourdieusian "field theory" is used in this article to grasp the
potential differentiated discursive positioning. Based on a comparative analysis of RWP media events organized in the town of
Schengen in Luxembourg, the investigation allows us to shed new light on the specificities of populism in the media.

AbstractThere is one European state leader from the moderate Christian-democrat center right who has developed a discourse and policies showing his progressive move toward the radical right: Viktor Orbán. Can Christianity be considered from a Laclauian perspective, as a "nodal point" of Orbán's radical right discourse; that is, a key element around which his antagonistic narratives are structured? Based on an analysis of segments of Orbán's speeches between 2014 and 2019 that mention Christianity, the research reveals that this religion is a nodal point for three main reasons: (1) the density of Christian references used to shape a negative and antagonistic discourse, strategically adjusted to his audience; (2) the use of Christianity to ground the three ideological pillars of the radical right (populism, nativism, and authoritarianism); and (3) the mobilization of Christianity to organize a hegemonic struggle against the dominant political force that has defined the meaning of this religion in the European public sphere—the moderate center right.

AbstractThe EU integration process has favoured the development of cross‐border regional identities in Europe. However, what types of identity models are mobilized in these areas and on what grounds? Based on a case study of the Greater Region centred on Luxembourg, the analysis shows that parallel identity models can be used to reinforce political executive bonds and functional economic integration beyond borders in relation to a new regional ideology. This choice based on a specific context is a background of spatial resilience beyond borders, imagined as a property of and a response by a regional system facing common challenges.

In addition, two types of journalistic elements that can explain potential differences are investigated: the broad interactions between the media and politicians in a given country, or the reporters belonging to a specific media segment such as the tabloid press or public broadcasters. The research is based on interviews given by Viktor Orbán during the 2019 EU election campaign. Critical discourse analysis is carried out to investigate the equivocal populist narratives produced.

Abstract
Mass media can represent and help to recompose European spaces. The aim of the current article is to ascertain whether the journalistic representation of space within a European cross-border region is related to the economy driven functional integration favored by the EU's new regionalism policies. Based on a content analysis of two interconnected newspapers located in the trans-frontier area centered around the Luxembourg economy, the objective is to explore the spatial arrangements orienting the mediatization of cross-border regionalization. The results show that new regionalism—meaning the definition of a de-bordered and urban regional unit based on economic competitive advantages—is not necessarily the most important geographical set of ideas leading to the production of images in a trans-frontier and European region. Each of the chosen newspapers has developed a cross-border agenda assigning specific values to state borders and places within this regional and functional setting.
