Starting from the review of the expression gradus dignitatis, used by Cicero in rep. I 27, 43, by means of a specific semantic-etymological investigation of the lemma dignitas and by comparing the different translations of this couple of words in the main modern languages, the paper attempts to reconstruct the position held by Cicero about the choice of magistratures within the optimus status civitatis. A position of highly meritocratic mark and in open polemic against the principle, promoted by the supporters of democratic regimes, of aequitas / aequabilitas in covering official positions, in a dialectical relationship with Plato and Aristotle. In the background of the specific debate opened by Cicero we also glimpse a thin network of references to the analysis of the constitutions and public offices among Sparta, Carthage and Rome led by Polybius in the sixth book of his Historiae.

The aim of this paper is to reflect on how, during the digital era, new forms of social isolation have emerged, quite different from the forms we found in other pandemics, before the rise of social networking. Through the use of images and information, this research aims to outline similarities between the Covid19 pandemic and earlier pandemics (specifically the Spanish flu) in terms of containment practices. We will also illustrate how the photos and testimonies that people shared online during this period have led to the interpretation of social networks as a social environment where self-representation and sociability take place.

Se la scoperta del papiro di Qaṣr Ibrîm ha ampliato le nostre conoscenze sulla produzione di Cornelio Gallo, la fisionomia di questi distici ha consentito di retrodatare l'apparizione del servitium amoris e delle lamentele sulla nequitia puellae restituendo a Gallo la paternità di entrambi e alla sua poesia un ruolo paradigmatico. Viceversa, per quel che concerne il fr. 4, il complesso legame che intercorre fra le Muse, Licoride e l'autore non permette di ipotizzare diretti influssi sulla creazione della figura della puella carminum iudex compiuta da Properzio soprattutto nel secondo libro delle Elegie. Un modello soggetto a continui riadattamenti appare viceversa il fr. 3, dedicato alla maxima pars historiae: la prospettiva di un trionfo bellico memorabile appare in ogni caso come la prima testimonianza di un interesse della poesia elegiaca (o 'epigrammatico-elegiaca') nei rispetti di un evento capace di trasformare il Caesar di turno nel personaggio più significativo della storia romana, il cui ritorno costituisce un'occasione di tripudio sul piano collettivo e sul piano personale. Dunque, Cornelio Gallo avrebbe allargato i confini dell'elegia augustea (o dell'epigramma augusteo) a tematiche di carattere politico, una scelta densa di conseguenze soprattutto per Properzio per il quale il peso del modello dovette risultare molto più significativo di quanto i moderni non possano verificare.
