Mit Bezug auf die Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns (1981) wird nicht selten von einem αParadigmenwechsel± in den Sozialwissenschaften gesprochen, den Jürgen Habermas selbst mit seinem Weg von der Bewusstseinsphilosophie zur Sprachtheorie vollzogen habe. Die vorliegende Studie verfolgt diesen Weg der Habermasschen Theoriebildung von der Interessenlehre der 1960er Jahre bis zur Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns. Im Zentrum steht dabei die intellektuelle Auseinandersetzung von Habermas mit jenen Denkern, deren Theorien und Ansätze scheinbar auch die Grundbegriffe seines eigenen theoretischen Systems stützen. Die Analyse der Habermasschen Interpretationen, von u.a. Popper, Marx, Weber, Wittgenstein, Gadamer und Freud, verweist jedoch auf eine Reihe von teilweise sehr eigenwilligen Auslegungen und höchst problematischen Adaptionen. In αkorrigierter± Lesart zeigt sich dagegen, dass Habermas seinen bewusstseinsphilosophischen Standpunkt nie wirklich verlassen hat, weshalb eine Korrektur der vorherrschenden Ansichten über den von Habermas vollzogenen αParadigmenwechsel± unerlässlich scheint.

AbstractIn South Korea, romanticization of the era of Japanese colonial rule (1910–1945) has long been taboo: the period is widely regarded as one of the most painful and shameful parts of South Korean history. However, during the past decade unexpected cracks have appeared in established national narratives on the colonial period. This paper explores the dissonance between long-standing national narratives and the commodification of local heritage sites for tourism, by examining the heritagization of Japanese colonial architecture in the city of Gunsan. Despite the Gunsan Municipal Government positions the city's colonial stories in ways that largely align with national official narratives on Japanese colonial history, such efforts have unexpectedly generated feelings of imagined nostalgia in three ways: (1) through clashes between official colonial history and the means by which colonial daily life is depicted in Gunsan's Modern Cultural Belt; (2) through the interwoven colonial and post-colonial stories presented in the city's Modern Historic Landscape District and (3) through the commercialized colonial and post-colonial stories articulated by private businesses in Gunsan. This paper suggests that productive nostalgia can help to overcome the limit of the current form of Gunsan's heritagization, and to construct Gunsan's diverse local memories

The political situation on the Korean Peninsula appears to be more hopeful now than for several decades, calling for a new strategy for reunification. Through music, people in the two Koreas can reclaim one ethnicity and the spirit of a unified nation. This thesis explores the possibility of achieving a unified ethnic identity through church music and poses a role for church music in overcoming the musical, cultural, and ecclesial divisions between South and North Korea. I examine the Korean National Music Theory (KNMT) of composer and church musician Lee Geon Yong as a musical and philosophical construct for analyzing the history, social culture, theology, and the implications of establishing a unified ethnic identity for South and North Korea. After comparing the political identities, artistic cultures, and musical characteristics of the two Koreas, I provide a brief history of the two Korean churches since their division. This research provides directions for a Koreanized church music to overcome musical heterogeneity of two Koreas. Based on this, I suggest the potential musical and theological characteristics of reunification hymnal and offer implications of Lee Geon Yong's work for the reunification of church music for the North and South Korea.

Les agents des services publics occupent pour la plupart des emplois impliquant un service aux usagers avec une dimension émotionnelle intense et exigeant donc de leur part un haut niveau d'intelligence émotionnelle. Ces emplois chargés émotionnellement peuvent conduire à un fort taux d'épuisement professionnel et d'insatisfaction au travail, ce qui influe directement sur le fonctionnement de l'organisation. Cette étude a pour but d'analyser, chez les agents des services publics, les relations qui existent entre les différentes dimensions de l'intelligence émotionnelle et le syndrome d'épuisement professionnel, d'une part, et entre ces différentes dimensions et la satisfaction au travail, d'autre part. Basés sur un échantillon de 167 agents des services publics américains, les résultats obtenus par la méthode de modélisation par équations structurelles montrent que la capacité à maîtriser ses émotions est significativement et négativement corrélée au syndrome d'épuisement professionnel et que la capacité à percevoir ses propres émotions est significativement et positivement corrélée à la satisfaction au travail. Remarque à l'intention des praticiens Cette étude permet de mieux comprendre la relation entre les dimensions de l'intelligence émotionnelle et le syndrome d'épuisement professionnel, et entre les dimensions de l'intelligence émotionnelle et la satisfaction au travail dans les emplois publics. L'intelligence émotionnelle joue un rôle significatif pour les agents des services publics dont les fonctions ont une dimension émotionnelle intense. Les résultats de cette étude montrent que l'acquisition de compétences en intelligence émotionnelle peut augmenter la satisfaction au travail et diminuer les risques d'apparition du syndrome d'épuisement professionnel. Les praticiens et les experts chargés du management et de la gestion des services publics pourraient envisager d'intégrer aux procédures de recrutement une évaluation du niveau d'intelligence émotionnelle, notamment de la capacité à percevoir et à maîtriser ses émotions, afin de sélectionner les candidats les mieux armés.

I examined the relationship between emotional labor and organizational commitment with 208 South Korean public service employees and used structural equation modeling to analyze the data. The results indicated that deep acting was positively associated with the 3 components of organizational
commitment, namely, identification, affiliation, and exchange, and the identification commitment component in particular. However, no significant relationship was found between surface acting and the 3 components of organizational commitment. Thus, South Korean public service employees with
a strong sense of organizational identity and who feel valued by their organization may generate positive emotions and engage in deep acting, leading to a high level of organizational commitment.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to gain some insights from a leading scholar of the cross-cultural cognitive social psychology field on how cultural differences are viewed, understood, and dealt with, and thus to contribute to enrich the way cultural differences are framed in cross-cultural management research.


Design/methodology/approach
The author conducts a formal, semi-structured interview with Richard Nisbett for a duration of 90 minutes. The author extracts the key message from the interview and re-structures the conversation in a meaningful manner.


Findings
From his cognitive social psychology lens, Richard Nisbett views that any cross-cultural contact between different thinking styles is advantageous because differences help address the limitations of one's own thinking style.


Research limitations/implications
The insights from cross-cultural cognitive social psychology encourage cross-cultural management researchers to further investigate the positive consequences of cultural differences.


Originality/value
Richard Nisbett's own journey from a young scientist who describes himself as an extreme universalist, to a mature intellectual who understands and appreciates different thinking style, is itself a concrete example of how differences can lead to the positive. The author summarizes three factors that are key to a positive outcome of cultural differences: curiosity and openness to cultural differences; habit of critical thinking; and intense interaction with culturally different others.
