Historia Afganistanu jest nieprzerwanym pasmem napięć i konfliktów, które kształtowały ten region. Afganistan jest miejscem głębokiej wewnętrznej niestabilności politycznej, będącej skutkiem jego heterogeniczności etniczno-religijnej, a także regionalnych i międzynarodowych konfrontacji geopolitycznych na jego terytoriach. Wśród nich wyróżnia się inwazja ZSRR na terytorium Afganistanu w latach 1979–1989, temu problemowi poświęcone są poniższe rozważania, w których odniesiono się do historycznych i geopolitycznych uwarunkowań konfliktu. Przeanalizowano przyczyny, przebieg i znaczenie inwazji ZSRR na Afganistan. W konkluzji autorka stwierdza, iż inwazja radziecka na Afganistan była wydarzeniem złożonym i wieloaspektowym, na które wpływały czynniki historyczne, geopolityczne i ideologiczne. Afganistan stał się polem bitwy w szerszych zmaganiach zimnej wojny między ZSRR a USA. Interwencja radziecka została zakwestionowana przez szereg wzajemnie powiązanych sił – lokalnych afgańskich, regionalnych i międzynarodowych w tym USA, które ufundowały miliardy dolarów na pomoc, broń i szkolenia dla mudżahedinów, skutecznie zamieniając konflikt w Afganistanie w wojnę zastępczą między supermocarstwami. Konflikt ten przyczynił się do zniszczenia infrastruktury państwa i zwiększenia poziomu ubóstwa. Co więcej, wojna w Afganistanie posłużyła jako punkt wyjścia do wzmocnienia islamskiego fundamentalizmu.

The article discusses two independence referenda of 2014 and 2017, which have been declared illegal by the Spanish government and the Constitutional Court. The referenda have shown that the majority of Catalans to establish their own state. The article presents historical conditions of the Catalan independence movement, analysis of referenda outcomes, and the impact of the 2020 pandemic on the independence movement. Methods used include institutional and legal analysis, system analysis and historical genetic method. The methods have proven that to a large extent historical factors and the 2008 economic crisis contributed to independence tendencies in Catalonia. All these facts contributed to the growing support for the independence among Catalans. This has been proven by outcomes of two independence referenda. The first one of them was held on 9 November 2014 and the turnout was 2 million out of 5.4 million eligible citizens. As much as 80% of voters opted for independence. The turnout of the 2017 referendum was 42.3% out of 5.34 million, and 90% of 2.26 million citizens participating in the referendum opted for independence, whereas 8% were against. The referenda showed that independence trends in European regions were still valid, since separatists might even use the crisis caused by the 2020 pandemic to support they independence struggle.

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące uwarunkowań historycznych katalońskiego ruchu niepodległościowego, analizy głosowań referendalnych referendum, wpływu pandemii w 2020 na kataloński ruch niepodległościowy. W toku przeprowadzonej analizy przy wykorzystaniu metod: analizy instytucjonalno-prawnej, analizy systemowej oraz historycznej metody genetycznej, wykazano, iż zjawiskiem, które w dużej mirze przyczyniło się do wzrostu nastrojów niepodległościowych w Katalonii były uwarunkowania historyczne, jak i kryzys gospodarczy z 2008 roku. Wszystko to wpływało na wzrost poparcia wśród Katalończyków dla idei niepodległościowej. Dowodem tego były wyniki dwóch referendów niepodległościowych, z których pierwsze przeprowadzone było 9 listopada 2014 r., wzięło w nim udział 2 mln spośród 5,4 mln uprawnionych. Za niepodległością opowiedziało się 80% uczestników głosowania. Z kolei w referendum 2017 roku wzięło udział 42,3% z uprawnionych do głosowania 5,34 mln. 90% z 2,26 mln osób biorących udział w głosowaniu opowiedziało się za niepodległością. 8% było przeciw. Referenda w Katalonii pokazały, że kwestia dążeń niepodległościowych poszczególnych europejskich regionów wciąż jest aktualna. Nawet kryzys spowodowany pandemią w 2020 roku, separatyści wykorzystali jako nowy argument za uniezależnieniem się od Hiszpanii.

The Euro-handbook and common collective memory of Europeans are the two topics of considerations in this paper. As indicated by its title, the author assumes that there is no com- mon collective memory of the residents of Europe and that a common handbook for European history has failed to be written so far. The considerations are divided into two parts. The first focuses on the common collective memory and related issues, the second presents a number of controversies over a common handbook for the history of European Union citizens. The con- cept of a common European memory is relatively new, and since it emerged it has been a pro- ject to be realized, a reality to be created, by making references to various social, cultural, historical, political, moral and economic categories. Memory is one of the most important fac- tors in building community: a familial, linguistic, national, religious and territorial commu- nity. Therefore, the policy of the European Union is to a large extent concentrated on building a 'collective memory'. This is about the Europeanization of culture and symbolization of pub- lic space which supports a sense of familiarity, and the consciousness that there is a common spiritual and intellectual European heritage. It is, however, difficult to develop a common Eu- ropean memory since that collective memory is divided; it is a conglomerate of different per- spectives and different versions. This obstacle makes it impossible to write a common handbook of European history. The Old Continent can hope for a divided or dialogue mem- ory, that is for an agreed memory that goes beyond a national horizon. Memory understood in this way could become a foundation for a Euro-handbook taking into account various histori- cal experiences and interpretations of events. If such an agreed handbook were written it could play a significant role in shaping the common memory policy. Therefore, there is a need for a wise and modern history handbook, where teaching would serve reconciliation. The out- come of such teaching is to involve tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

In 2004, Polish women took part in the elections to the European Parliament for the first time. It was a long road that led them to take seats there. The beginnings of the Polish women's movement date back to the 19th century when it was closely connected with the struggle for the independence of Poland. It was then that the stereotype of the Polish Mother emerged, the guardian of the hearth and home, and promoter of patriotism. These, among other things, were the social, cultural and political stereotypes that women seeking to increase their presence in public life needed to face up to. Polish women obtained voting rights rela- tively early on, in 1918. Despite their political rights, they did not participate in the political life of interwar Poland on a larger scale. The women's organizations that emerged after WWII implemented the ideology that was officially propagated in those times, and strictly followed the policies of the authorities. Significant changes in the women's movement occurred in the 1980s when authentic women's initiatives formed around the Solidarity movement. At pres- ent, approximately 300 women's organizations operate in Poland. Polish accession to the European Union has given Polish women an opportunity to intensify their activities in supra- national politics. Polish women took seats in the European Parliament, although their numbers thus far have been relatively low. During the 6th parliamentary term, out of 54 Polish Members of the European Parliament, 7 were women. In the EP elections held in 2009, 11 Polish women were elected as MEPs. Regardless of this low level of representation, Polish women are very active and resilient and seriously committed to working in European Parlia- mentary structures.

The paper discusses the issues of identity and collective memory in the process of Europeanization. These issues have long been the subject of lively debates among scholars and politicians because for the integration process to succeed it is necessary to construct a European identity and collective memory which are indispensable in order to legitimize this process. The paper presents considerations pertaining to the definition and scope of such notions as Europeanization, European identity and collective memory and seeks to answer the question whether it is conceivable to develop a European identity and collective memory of EU citizens. The author concludes by saying that despite the European Union's long-lasting efforts, it has failed to form a collective European identity even though certain types of this identity have found expression through EU institutions and community laws. Collective memory formation is a difficult task since collective memory is divided as it is a confluence of different perspectives and versions. A shared or dialogical memory is what the Old Continent may hope to develop: an agreed memory which transcends respective national horizons. Both European identity and collective memory are still being forged. Their formation is a complex process that has to be designed from scratch. It is a deliberate and planned process focused on maintaining peace and generating prosperity by enhancing economy. ; Artykuł poświęcony jest dwóm zagadnieniom tożsamości i wspólnej pamięci zbiorowej w procesie europeizacji. Problematyka ta od lat jest przedmiotem ożywionej dyskusji naukowców i polityków, bowiem koniecznością udanego projektu integracyjnego stało się skonstruowanie europejskiej tożsamości i wspólnej pamięci zbiorowej niezbędnej dla legitymizacji tego zamierzenia. W artykule przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące definicji i zakresu pojęć tj.: europeizacja, tożsamość europejska i wspólna pamięć zbiorowa, jak i skoncentrowano się na poszukaniu odpowiedzi dotyczącej możliwości wypracowania tożsamości europejskiej i wspólnej pamięci zbiorowej obywateli Unii Europejskiej. W konkluzji autorka stwierdziła, iż pomimo szeregu starań ze strony Unii Europejskiej nie udało się wypracować wspólnej europejskiej tożsamości, aczkolwiek pewne jej rodzaje zaczęły wyrażać się za pośrednictwem instytucji UE i prawa wspólnotowego. Również wykształcenie wspólnej pamięć zbiorowej jest zadaniem trudnym, gdyż pamięć zbiorowa jest pamięcią podzieloną, jest splotem różnych perspektyw i różnych wersji. Nadzieją dla Starego Kontynentu zatem jest pamięć podzielana lub dialogiczna – uzgodniona przekraczająca horyzont narodu. Tożsamość europejska i wspólna pamięć zbiorowa, wciąż są w fazie kształtowania się. Budowanie ich to złożony proces, który konstruowany jest od podstaw. Jest on celowy i zaplanowany oraz skoncentrowany na utrzymaniu pokoju i tworzeniu dobrobytu poprzez wzmacnianie gospodarki.

This text considers the crisis in the context of its impact on development and disparities within structure of the European Union across various levels of its functions. The main objective of this work is to provide answers to the following questions: how many times has the European Union faced the crisis in the past; was the crisis an element that eventually strengthened or weakened the EU integration process; what decisions were made to fight the crisis; and to what extent was the crisis an element that led to disparities within the European Union? One of the goals is also to define the notion of crisis. The primary thesis of this text is a statement that crises, which affected the EU, contributed to differentiations of its policies. This is partially contrary to the concept of the European integration, developed in the 1950s, which assumed that the EU member states need to move forward at the same speed and as part of equal participation in the integration projects. Crises, however, contribute to disparities in the European integration.
