Enterprise Architecture is an active, strategic data base which defines a business, what is necessary to operate a business, including the technologies that are needed to support its operations, and the transition processes necessary for implementing new technologies in response to changes in the needs of the business (Hite, 2002). The strategic importance of Enterprise Architecture (EA) is recognised by a growing number of global enterprises all over the world (Durst & Daum, 2007; Ross, Weill, & Robertson, 2006) and investment in Enterprise Architecture programmes raises the expectations of them being beneficial. Through case study methodology, using questionnaire and/or interviews, data from five Portuguese enterprises were collected and analysed, determining the top management vision about the different stages of the development EA programme, determining the level of maturity with regard to the implementation of EA in these enterprises. The authors found that, despite the limitations of this study, the top management of the 5 enterprises consulted see EA as a business asset since it contains all the information necessary to make decisions in the business, and allows the ITs to be aligned with the business's strategy; that management structure is important for its development, that most of the enterprises consulted do not use assessment models for investment decisions in EA, and that the AE Balanced Scorecard is considered a suitable model for business management and EA, although most do not use it.
Doutoramento em Biologia e Ecologia das Alterações Globais ; Freshwater ecosystems have been severely affected by the expansion of human development in the last century. Freshwater biodiversity is consequently in sharp decline due to increased demand over limited water resources. Degradation and loss of ecosystem services, as well as financial consequences of ecological freshwater problems are creating pressure for a change in attitude from governments and stakeholders concerning strategies for conservation management. Damming is one of the major causes of ecological change in rivers associated with human development. Knowledge of their impact on freshwater ecosystems has been mostly described from the perspective of taxonomic changes. However, this approach provides little information about biological function. Alternative and simpler ways to assess the impact of damming are crucial since the constructions of dams are in expansion, especially in tropical regions where the lack of taxonomical and ecological knowledge about fish species impose an obstacle to effective mitigation measures. A trait-based approach holds the promise to increase our mechanistic understanding of biological responses to disturbed habitats; it transcends taxonomy and it can be applicable across large geographic units. Fishes have a history as biological indicators of environmental quality. They are useful for testing new approaches as their responses to varied anthropogenic disturbances are relatively well documented and their sensitivities to the health of surrounding aquatic environments form one of the basis to monitor environmental degradation. The usage of fish traits as an alternative approach to assess impacted rivers is presented in a critical review where their potential advantages over traditionally used methods are discussed as well as their challenges. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of damming on fish fauna after dam closure using taxonomic and trait-based approaches. The experimental design considered both ...
In 2010 more than 70% of the population in the Brazilian Amazon was living in urban centers. This article looks at the effect of urbanization on market availability and consumption of regional fruits in the state of Acre. The east and west region were used as proxies for urbanization, and quantitative and qualitative methods were combined in interviews with regional fruit vendors and consumers. Open markets in large cities provided a greater variety of regional fruits for purchase, yet fruit consumption was more diverse in the less urbanized west, than in the east. This pattern reveals the importance of fruit tree diversity in home gardens and urban forested fragments, as well as of non-monetary exchanges of goods as promoters of variety in fruit consumption. Findings suggest that children may be benefiting the most from this consumption. Also, certain regional fruits have gained a 'cultural marker' status and are widely consumed regardless of the urbanization rates. Nevertheless, this article demonstrates how urbanization affects the diversity of fruit consumption in different social groups, and how this process is mediated by access, income level, and health concerns.
Abstract This article discusses the results of a study completed in zones with social and territorial vulnerability in Parelheiros, south region of the city of São Paulo SP, through the partnership between existing communities of the area and two civil society organizations: CPCD - Popular Center of Culture and Development and Ibeac - Brazilian Institute of Studies and Community Support. The context for the analysis was to recognize that populations settled in situations of incomplete urbanization are more exposed to risks arising from the effects of climate change and, for this reason, should receive attention from initiatives capable of strengthening them socially and economically to face these risks. In this scenario, women and children are identified as the most vulnerable groups among the vulnerable. By paying attention to their specific conditions, important demands from the entire community are also addressed.
Abstract: In Brazilian mental health services, namely in the Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPSs), several intervention tools have been used. The therapeutic workshops stand out as one of the main ones. The present study aimed to establish, through a literature review, an overview of the scientific production carried out in the format of article about the therapeutic workshops in the mental health field in Brazil. The following databases were consulted: Periódicos Eletrônicos de Psicologia (PEPsic), Base de Dados de Enfermagem (BDEnf) and Scientific Electronic Library Online-Brasil (SciELO-Brasil). The localized references were sorted to enable the discarding of possible duplications and then selected according to the theme. The corpus of analysis consisted of 11 references. It was found that the objectives of such references were relatively diverse, but most of them did not provide information on the frame of the therapeutic workshops they addressed. In any case, the references pointed out that such intervention tools, specially from the artistic expression and the work, fomented the interaction between the users, as well as the development of different abilities and, consequently, they provided subsidies for the psychosocial care. On the other hand, in some references, there were indications that the therapeutic workshops researched, at least in part, appeared as mere tasks to be performed mechanically by the users, because were conceived or ended up functioning as a kind of hobby. The present study, therefore, can be considered potentially useful for researchers and health professionals interested in the subject. Keywords: Mental health. Therapeutic workshops. Objective: to investigate whether Millennials are internally consistent and distinguished cohort in terms of the perception of luxury
Methodology: mixed: the international e-survey results, conducted in 5 different countries (Poland, Portugal, Turkey, Germany and Saudi Arabia, 1193 responses) and 4 FGI, conducted in the groups of younger and older Millennials in Poland and Portugal.
Findings: Millennials demonstrate strong country–specific differences in evaluating luxury value drivers; from avowed hedonic status-seekers (mainly Saudi Arabians), through moderately enthusiastic luxury products admirers (Portuguese, Turkish, Polish) to stand-outs, individualists who contest the overall CVPL as represented mostly by Germans. The evaluation of luxury is not cohort specific but rather a matter of the family and material status strengthened by socio-cultural pressure.
Value Added: Global consumption behavioral patterns regarding luxury are permeated by local cultural influences, but are not global cohorts' specific, due to their internal cultural, age, income and family status diversity.
Recommendations: Communication strategies in a luxury sector should be adjusted more to the country-specific and less to the specific needs of global cohorts.
