From introduction: "In terms of population, territory, govemment, foreign relations, economic development, and democratization, and under international law, Taiwan has every right to become a member of the United Nations. Since 1993, Taipei has indicated its desire and taken the appropriate actions to join the United Nations, but Beijing has consistently blocked the campaign. After President George W. Bush was inaugurated in January 2001, Taipei was able to improve relations with the United States and gained more support for joining such international organizations as the World Health Organization (WHO). Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) initiated several reforms and broadened the traditional concept of diplomacy."(.)

Cable TV plays a dominant role in the media environment of Taiwanese society. Before the passage of the Cable TV Law in 1993, the industry was a vibrant informal sector; it was highly differentiated, and acted as a democratic alternative to the formal media. The 1993 Cable TV Law, which designed a competitive market with five licenses issued in each area, was touted as a victory for democracy by the opposition parties. In less than a decade, however, drastic merger movements led to a monopolistic structure. The abuse of monopolistic power has become pervasive. This article studies this unexpected historical twist by examining the industry's market dynamics during the country's democratization in the 1990s. To show the path‐dependent mechanisms in the nonlinear development trajectory of the market, a sociological approach is applied that emphasizes firms' competitive strategies in controlling the multiple dimensions of uncertainties and rules that induce this competition.

One of the most attractive issues in the construction industry today is cost reduction because depression is coming after Japan's bursting bubbles and spreading to other Asian countries. However, most researchers do not know how to solve this problem because they still know very little about the relationship between cost and output for the construction industry. Therefore, the author tried to analyze the cost function of construction firms with due consideration of their available resources by using Cobb-Douglas Production and Cost Functions in this paper. By statistical analysis, the cost and production functions of Japan's and Taiwan's construction firms were discovered.
