Examines the support for development of green electricity in industrialized & developing countries, focusing on ways to promote a green electricity scheme. Green electricity refers to a form of voluntarily paid higher cost electricity in which consumers' premium price would cover both ordinary power & matching units of power from renewable resources, such as solar or wind energy. After reviewing objections & difficulties in developing green electricity globally, requirements for successful implementation of a green electricity scheme are identified, including increasing public awareness, gaining support of the business sector, verification controls over utilities' power trading, & governmental regulation. The case of green electricity development in the People's Republic of China is explored. 2 Tables. J. Sadler
